Red Line Diesel Water Wetter?

Is Diesel Water Wetter safe to use in my Cummins? What with that crazy orange (?) HOAT coolant they use, and the "special coolant only" warning on the overflow bottle, I'm concerned. My buddy is a Red Line dealer and he put a half bottle of the stuff in my coolant bottle before I could stop him. Besides the slightly darker color that stuff turned my coolant, should I be concerned?

The red stuff is hybrid organic acid technology coolant or HOAT. They do not recommend mixing it with the etylene glycol coolant as it can decrease the life of the coolant. This stuff is supposed to be good for five years. GM has apparently been using it for several years now. Mercedes was the first DC product to use it.

HMMMmmm where did you get that information?

I've used regular Water Wetter in my BMW's in the past, but I never heard about it reducing freeze protection.

It helped my '91 - which tended to run hot in the mountains when towing... Not a radical difference, but noticeable...

I didn't notice any difference in my Bimmers. I used it for the hell of it. My buddy put a half a bottle in his Powerscrote and the rest in my truck before I could stop him. I couldn't find anything in the TDR or on Redline's site that says I can't use it. Cummins doesn't want you to use anything, including their own Fleetguard stuff, according to their website.

If you really study the redline oil website to learn about water wetter, you will see that it was originally intended for race application. It works best in plain water, not an antifreeze mix. Race cars don't have to worry about winter freezing. I used it with good results in a supercharged Mustang GT I owned for several years. Worked MUCH better with plain water with just the water wetter and water pump lube than it did with antifreeze. I was living in Michigan at the time, so had to run antifreeze. Now that I live in the FLorida Keys where the record low is 45, I don't own the car any more!

Understood. I got the idea to use it in my Bimmers as a former member of the BMWCCA... my buddy with the Powerscrote Dually is a BMWCCA Club Racer... they don't allow antifreeze/coolant (due to it's slickness if it gets on the track): you can only use plain water or water with Water Wetter.

As long as it doesn't turn the "Fanta" coolant into "Jell-O" in my Hummin' Cummins, that's all I care about.

I use the stuff in my rock buggy and I saw a 10-20* difference in temps at low speed crawling situations---but that is with water and wetter only.
