My truck seems to be a magnet for the wierd stuff... .

On my way home the other day I looked in my rear-view mirror to see the plastic, reflective tailgate stripe flappin' in the breeze like a flag... Only about 10 inches was still securely glued on so I pulled it off the rest of the way... . Seems to be like a big sticker... Has anyone had to replace theirs before? ... Is this still available from the "stealer" :)-laf I love that term!)

Thanks, Rob

Tape

rkubicki

Most auto part stores have double sided trim tape that is meant to stick stuff like this on.

Me I more than likely would have lost the piece and kept driving.

tape

Mine came off too! What I did was sand all the red tape off and then buffed the chrome until it shined. Quick fix and in my opinion looks better. :D

A real kick in the head was when, tonight, I passed a much older Ram with the paint so badly rubbed out in places it looked like a dalmation - but it had a perfect tailgate stripe...

Thanks for your replies.

One trick I've heard of is to use some 3M reflective tape of the correct width. When I can get motivated, I think that's what I'll to do take care of mine.

Mike

Good idea, Midnite... . That would have to be one wide piece of tape though!! - unless you were to take multiple passes with narrower tape.

mine's long gone...

McMaster-Carr has it in 3" or 4" width. 3 3/4" seems like it would be ideal. Not sure if you'd want to cut this stuff down, it's "made of acrylic resin with glass beads and aluminum. " Available in six colors - solid or saftey striped! A 5-yard roll is $14. 28 for 3" $18. 26 for 4". Hmmm, not quite enough for 3 trucks. Hey, Rob, wanna split a roll? Ha! They have some 3" glow-in-the-dark tape, too.

Andy

Hey Andy, that stuff won't affect my power-to weight ratio will it? :D ... That sounds like some heavy duty stuff!... Where is McMaster-Carr anyway?... As long as you don't want a neon-green glow stripe or something like that, I'll split a roll with you :)

Rob

Has anyone ever seen a black stripe? Mine is black, but it's paint, not a sticker. I guess this was changed when it was repainted. I think it's odd that Dodge put a red stripe on every color of rig.

Mike

Hey Rob,

I'm going to go with the traditional red stripe. Reflective, so when my headlite switch burns out, I won't get rear ended(!) Plus, my truck is red. I'll let you know how it works out, maybe I can bribe some pump tuning know-how out of you with it.

McMaster-Carr is a good place to know. It's in Chicago/Elmhurst but they ship everywhere. It's a commercial/industrial supply outfit. They have an unbeleiveable selection of stuff. The catalog is 3392 pages! The website is www.mcmaster.com

I think they put a red reflective stripe on all the trucks (regardless of color) to add more "red safety reflectiveness" that would work in tandem with the reflectors in the taillights... It could also have been a style thing - I notice Ford trucks built in the same era have a similar reflective red stripe...

Thanks for the info Andy... Definitely keep me posted on how the stripe turns out... I feel like I owe you a few tuning tricks already :)
