Thanks for posting. It's always interseting to re-hear things from people that have lived through alot.

I'm old enough...

to remember Red, and Milton, and Sid, and Jimmy and the overwhelming patriotism and love of country that permeated the country, then. The words "under God" were added in 1954, as a statement of solidarity and unity in the face of the Communist enemy. That goverment forbad any reference to God, and alliegience to ANY religion.

Today, we are faced with enemies no different than the communists, but who still dictate whom you shall worship, how you shall dress, what you shall eat, and provide absolutely no freedoms whatsoever.

Now, does this answer any questions about why we include "Under God" in our pledge? Kind of important , eh?

You are not under any duress to say the words "under God' when you pledge alligience, and that is what makes our country great, and our enemies furious!

Oh by the way, the other thing which makes our country great, is that those who chose not to believe in God, have absolutely no right to dictate what those of us who believe in God, to recite in our pledge to our country's flag. We don't force you to say it our way, do we?

a happy 4th to all... ... and May GOD Bless America

Even though we all know the meaning of the "Pledge of Allegince" it's nice to be reminded of the meaning of the words. Thanks for posting that reminder that so many have paid so dearly to preserve.

Every 4th of July the local country music radio station here in Va Beach plays an audio clip of Red reciting this. And yes, as already said, it chokes you up and makes you lift your head up at the same time.

With what recently happened in CA, wasn't in prophetic what Red said then about it being considered a prayer?

I'm proud to be a U. S. Marine with just over 22yrs in and even more proud to be an American. This nation has been blessed and is as great as we are because we were founded on a belief system of one God. For anyone to think that because we reference God in most all of our pledges or oaths of office, we are contradicting the Constitution of the United States, they haven't done there homework. I'm sure most have heard this before, but the only mention of separating church and state came in a letter from Thomas Jefferson to a Baptist Church about this issue.

Sorry, don't want to turn this into a debate... ... . I'm just proud of this nation's principles and I'm proud to celebrate what this nation stands for.

Happy 4th everyone! Thanks to all you Veterans out there on the TDR.

Red Was Great !!

Good Post !

I am far from a prude and with a lifetime as a Cop have heard everything people could possibly say. I still yearn for the old days when Comedians were funny. (with out some one like Chris Rock yelling the F word with every other breath) Guy's like Johnathan Winters, Tim Conway and the like will never be seen again.
