Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Red valve cover: available?

I saw this pic on dodgeram.org #ad


and decided I couldn't live without it. It's listed as part number 3943668. However, when I went to buy one from my local Cummins parts house, I asked if they could be sure it is red. So they called their sister store (that has one in stock), the guy pulled it and looked at it... it's grey.



Anyone know if cummins still makes a red one? If so, what's the right part number for it? Or do I have to get it powder coated/painted myself? Did they use this on a specific year(s) truck?

If memory serves, the Red cover came with a coating that mede it look grey.

Yup, cover comes with a gray plastic on it, peel it off and its all read under the plastic.

I would think the parts guy would be smart enough to see the gray plastic protector, and look under that?

When did they start coming in blue? that would match the truck nicely lol How much are we lookin at here?

Be careful with some of the re painted ones. I bought a new cover in red. Had to cut about . 020 off in a spot for stud clearance. Piece of paint about an inch in diameter flew off. Slick black paint underneath. Probably cheaper to buy another cover than to sand blast and take to the powder coater. Those blue ones do look nice.

This is the Cummins part number for the red cover it says for '98. 5-2000 trucks. I found it on the Dodgeram.org site. Here it is, #3943668. I might be interested in a black one if you still have one left Bob. If you do, can you pm me a price? Thanx. Gary
