Red Valve Cover Blues!!!!

Need some help on the part # for this valve cover. I ordered part # 3943668 from my Cummins dealer last week and it arrived today only to be the light brown color that cummins uses. The parts guy said over the phone that it looked like it had once been red but now its a cream color??? I have'nt seen it yet but I now it's not what I had on my wish list. He offered to call the main branch somewhere in the midwest I think and when he called me back he said they had not heard of a red cover but would check for part #'s to see if any were red. Can anybody relate? I need one of these covers, it's a gotta have item. Where am I going wrong with the P. N. , it was taken from a thread off of TDR. PLEASE HEEELLLPPP.

Hi Steve, I just took my Cummins invoice out and I have part # 3943668. When I received my red valve cover it was in a plastic bag with what looked like a gray coating. I thought they had sent me a marine grey v. c. I then opened the bag and the grey paint was a bad job. The closer I looked the more it looked like rubber. Just a protective cover that peeled off easily.

Steve, I did not mention that my valve had red overspray in the bolt holes. Good Luck.

I also saw a TDR member install his red V. C. and when he took it out of the plastic, I thought it was a beige color at first, then after he peeled the coating off, it was bright shiny red #ad

Steve. it's only a protective coating,mine came in a gray color,peeled of coating,it was bright (RED)!!!!

tHANKS TO ALL, I went to cummins this morning to check the cover that came in and sure enough it was just as you guys said, it was a protective coating. Funny the cummins parts man did'nt even no what he was looking at? This is truly a great site for all kinds of information. THANKS. STEVE.
