Oil filter

I am getting the fluids my differential, transfer case, & NV5600 transmission changed. In the past this was performed by various Dodge dealerships.

The diesel speciality shop I am going to ONLY deals in Redline Oil Products. It is my understanding that these are well suited for the differentials and transfer case. I have also read that their MTL 70W80 GL-4 Gear Oil (used in the 5600) has experienced mixed results especially in cold weather and do NOT meet Dodge's specifications.

IF the above is true... I am apprehensive about getting the transmission serviced at this time & perhaps best wait for the known Penzoil approved fluid. I have never had any issues with this product other than the "normal notchiness" when shifting this transmission.

Maybe it's time for a change but not if doing so could possibly do harm to the transmission.

Any thoughts/experiences with Redline MTL 70W80 GL-4 Gear Oil most appreciated... :)

I have used nothing but Redline products in all my vehicles for over 10 years now. The 70/80 MTL has been used in my NV5600 for 224k miles( flushed and refreshened several times). I live in the Northeast and have had no problems in the winter.

I've tried Pennzoil, Redline, and Amsoil. I'm now back to Redline, the truck just happens to do better with the Redline in the transmission. The diffs and everything else still have Amsoil.

130K of Redline only: diffs, transmission (NV 5600=MTL) and xfer case. No problems in all weathers, 20% of that is heavy tow.

Just changed the Redline MTL in my NV5600 out of curiosity more than anything. Only had 30,000 on it. Looked and smelled like the new stuff I put back in. Very little bronze in it. I don't tow, but I drive highway speed 100 miles a day. Redline MTL meets the standards for the NV5600 application.

Only one oil meets Dodge's specs. It was the only oil tested for that application, so they have to say that.
