Ok, i am thinking of getting my oil changed everywhere in the drive train.

I've been using redline for my car all the time and i liked it. .

has anyone used redline here for the trucks?

I run Amsoil in the engine, but the transmission and axles run redline. When I switched over to redline in the transmission (6 speed) it reduced the notcheness of shifting. Thats my experience with it. I like the product ;)

Ok, this is going to be for the automatic one...

what would you guys suggest. because i don't know what weight or grade i should run in rear end and if i need to add teh friction modifier etc etc. i do pull a 6000# trailer quite a bit ...

diff oil

Redline has several differential oils.

One is specific for NON limited slip.

I would use their Redline ShockProof. 4 weights.

Heavy shockproof: The viscosity characteristics allow the lubricant to resist throwoff and provide a film thickness similar to a 75W250 grade, while providing the same low fluid friction as an SAE 75W90.

no lsd additive is needed. (contains one from factory)

Lightweight shockproof: Similar to a 75W140 gear oil, but with the lower internal friction of an SAE 30 motor oil.

If you see a NS redline gear oil, that is the one that does not have LSD modifiers. Don't use it. These GL-5-type geal oil doesn't contain the friction modifiers for limited-slip hypoid differentials.

See: www.redlineoils.com for details.

auto trans

I am using Amsoil universal in my auto.

I wish I had ordered the Redline ATF+3. I would then add (in small increments) lubeguard red friction modifer to remove any locking clutch shudder if any was present. no more slipperiness that necessary.

I like and prefer all Redline products. Great proven race/track/street product line and NOT marketed via direct sales.

I don't recommend synthetics for our CTD engines, but they are excellent for transmissions and differentials. Red Line makes an awsome two-stroke oil that I have used for years in my bikes. Provides great lubrication, and the inside of the engine is super clean at tear down time. If their other products are as good as the two-stroke oil I'd highly recommend.

Redline is my favorite by far. I have used their 15W-40 and was blown away by it's performance and cost. I will be switching back to it, even at $30 a gallon.

I gained 2psi more peak boost (less turbo friction) after I switched, and spoolup was improved as well. It's intangible, but the truck also just FELT really good.

As for ATF, use either the D4 or the High Temp ATF, and put some lubegard additive in it (converts ATF to "highly friction modified").

For diff oil, there's no need for the Shookproof. I run the Heavy in my rear end and it's REALLY thick. It pours very slowly. Great protection. But it's a REAL PITA to install because it pours slowly. I took me almost an hour just to pour in 4 quarts (and I made a HUGE mess, wasting a lot of it). The bottles that redline uses really irritate me, since they're not like other gear oil bottles, and they are almost rigid.

In short, I feel that Redline makes a fantastic product in a crappy package:(

Well i just met an owner of a local shop that can get any of these oils... so if anyone in MN needs anything from Redline let me know i can get some!!!

Ok, how much of each will i need...

Rear end

Front

Transfer case

Automatic trany

Would you use Heavy shockproof for the rear end front and transfer case? or would you use something else for each one of those?

I've had the truck for last 24k miles and i haven't done any of those oil changes yet except the trany and i put the factory crap in it but don't remember how many quarts it took.

or point me in a direction where i can find this info. . i'll try to do a search as well...

redline shockproof

Depends upon how you drive.

There is a lightweigh shockproof, a 75w140 synth. If you want better fuel mileage.

Superlightweight is the consistency of trans oil. rated at 75w90 i believe. probably too light for anything we would do.

If you have ever used shockproof, it is odd. it is grey in color. MIGHT EXPOSE YOU TO WARRANTY QUESTIONS YOU DON'T WANT. I use in in my trail rig and my son's jeep.

Absoultely nothing wrong and lot's of benifits to running a synthetic motor oil in the Cummins. Just make sure it is diesel rated and a good wieght for the ambient temps. Amsoil Marine diesel looks awfully good.

If you get an oil analysis kit ($30 at genos) you may be able to go with extended drain intervals, thus justifying the addition price and protection. BUT ONLY POST WARRANTY

well this morning as i pulled into the parking garage at work the odometer read 100,113 so yeah, i'd say its past warranty :( ... . either way, slow modding begins since i want more power out of this thing. . it seams dog slow but then again my other car is a 12 second car as well so its hard to compare the two. .
