Metal Detecting

I still have to grind off the welding slag/spatter (I used a flux core wire feed DC welder) and paint the bracket…but it works really well. The door closes by itself even if you open it 6”. If you open it all the way (90°) and let it go…it slams shut like a guillotine and can launch stuff right out of the door mounted shelving – watch out! :-laf

The fridge now seems to run less since I’m assured that the door is really shut all the time. Normally, I wouldn’t suggest doing this to an appliance…but this one only has to last a bit longer until I’ve got my money’s worth ($0. 00) out of it. So far, the sheet metal screws don’t seem to be shorting out anything…

at work on the loco's, many of the fridges on them have latches that don't work anymore [broken, parts missing... ] when i am out on the dispatch testing power, in my pocket at all times is a roll of electrical tape. it does wonders holding the fridge door closed [as well as repairing seat armrests and anything else loose]

yours is a much more high tech approach to fixing the door...

Go to a motorcycle junk yard and get an old steering stabilizer. install that on top to keep the thing from slamming shut. Bombing a refrigerator? Must not be alot going on up in the north country. :)

Matt I am amazed you didn't catch a high side line with those screws.

VERY good point, Timmarrrgh! Well - I got the fridge for free and I know that the compressor, condensor and evaporator is all mounted towards the back of the unit. I was very concerned (OK, so I just drilled and hoped for the best... ) that some kind of electrical connection for condensation reduction would get shorted out... I got lucky. :)

I can't wait to see what you have in store for the toilet... :-laf

My Dad said the same exact thing... you guys know me all too well. :-laf

Next project - BOMB the cat's automated litterbox! (not!)

Well, there is no snow here (can't use the diesel snowblower... )... and there's only so long I can go before I look for excuses to bring out the welder. I GOTTA get that thing setup for MIG - this flux core stuff is for the birds... actually with the spatter I'm getting... it looks like birds flew over the workpiece and dropped manure on it. :-laf To top it all off, with the '98 sold... I gotta keep the '94 in one piece so I can have something to drive to work everyday before I can fire ring it and twin it.

Thanks for the kind words, gents.

Matt

When you get ready to make your cold pipe let me know what size your using. I made some little connectors that hold the pieces together and keep you from getting dingleberries on the inside when you weld them. Makes it easyto get aligned also. I'll make a couple and send them when you're ready.

Ron

Hey, Ron:

I told you this before... but I'll say it again - you are the man! :)

I plan on running 3" out of the atmospheric charger (to keep the package tight and the pressure/velocity high... ) and will neck it up to 4" with an exhaust pipe adapter just before the secondary/little charger.

I won't be ready to do twins for a while... but you'd be happy to know that your 'large frame' turbine inlet flange has garnered a lot of comments to the effect of... "Wow! - who machined that?". Nice work! :) My plans of doing twins last spring never materialized due to logistics and a tight schedule... and now I'm running into other variables like home improvement. :)

Thanks,

Matt

Dude been there done been thinking that that and ...

[Daydream sequence]got a phone call from LitterMaid™ and their tech support. I proposed that I use a Pole psoition 540 series motor from my RC car days. (Double cross wound motor that was actually called the pole position double black) I re-engineered the traverse rake with major gear reduction being it had a peak torque curve @ 28,000 rpm. That way my big cat Tyler could use his with ease.

He would regularly blow the back of the thing clean apart. He took 1st and 4th in the state power dump competition last year so I had to do something.

Well now I need you to engineer a wheelchair for a feline as it sheared his hind legs off in mid delivery and booted him out of the crap hut at a clocked speed of 34. 6 Mph. [/end Dream Sequence]

Dude that went horribly wrong stick to the fridge *shivers*

Matt, I double dare you to charge that blower! In fact when I find a replacement for my truck I will donate my HX 35 to the cause. Chris

PS. I did get your PM... . thanks guy!

Chris:

I think I'd need about 8000rpm and a big shot of NOS on that little 296cc diesel to spool an HX-35... I can handle that. Actually, I'm on the lookout for an IHI RHB3 (or similarly sized turbo... )... when I stumble across one for a good price - I'll snag it and bolt it up.

Helz yaeh but not the Cat box :-laf

If anything, I'd like to put a particulate filter on the cats' exhaust... :-laf

Matt, Have you thought of a way to make a beer thrower?? I am looking for something along the lines of a device that will launch me a beer every 10-15 minutes. (every 20-25 min after I pass out :D ) You seem to be the best person to ask this question. I know you must have thought about this before and I am just wondering if you have any ideas. Oo.

Brian: How far do you have to throw it? I'm trying to figure out if pneumatics or gun powder will be involved. :-laf

I've seen some methods of delivering bottled/canned beverages from a refrigerated area to the entertainment area. I haven't liked any of them.

So far, the best solution is a plain old keg sitting in a small fridge with a pressurized delivery line (no pumping the keg! :D). I've seen kegs as small as 3. 5 gallons with the same tap as the 14. 5 gallon "1/2 barrels"... that would be the ticket for 'home use' if a party wasn't in the near future.

My plan is to buy one of those couches that has the fridge in the arm rest. Open the arm rest and walla! Beer!

Put a large garbage can next to the couch and your all set!

You just have to remember to empty the cans when your sober! :-laf

Dude! Just BOMB the couch you already have! You're a bachelor - chances are... its in bad enough shape that if you goofed up and had to scratch the project - it wouldn't matter (and nobody would notice!)! :-laf
