I think that I could benefit from a reflash. About a year ago, the ECU stopped reliably triggering the fuel pump. I simply switched the trigger to ignition hot and that seems to be OK.

Last fall, I began having trouble with the always reliable quick starting. I discovered that the wait start light will not come on until 5-10 seconds after the ignition is switched on, during which time it will not start regardless of the engine temperature. It will crank but not start until the light has come on and then will start regardless of temperature. It will always start readily when the light comes on. For years, I have started the truck immediately when I know the engine is warm. I want to be able to that again.

Could a reflash correct these two issues?

If a reflash could help, where in Central Indiana could this be done by a trusted shop? What might I expect to pay? I do absolutely no business with any of the local dealers and will not start to do so unless highly recommended. Recommendations for a specialty shop would be welcome. I will live with these issues if I don't get some good advice.

From what I remember of reading about the experiences of others with similar ECM symptoms, a reflash isn't going to change anything because the problem is likely hardware related. You should probably start shopping for a rebuilt ECM or a good used one.

If you want to try a reflash anyway, it's as simple as buying (or borrowing) a performance programmer such as the Hypertech MaxEnergy or similar. Such a device will flash the ECM with modified software for increased performance, and then if you desire, it can also be used to flash the ECM back to the latest OEM program. This is possible because the programmer has all the stock OEM software programs stored in it... the exact same ones a dealer has.

I hope that helps,

John L.
