I am posting this on behalf of a friend. 99 CTD 1 ton auto all stock.

When I met him he was dealing with an overheat problem, and lack of power, almost 240 degrees towing a small boat:--)

Changed thermostat which was visually broken and fan clutch and no more overheat:D Next step was to reset the overheat code for the HP. Only one dealership on this island and they get the reflash info emailed to them from DC I think, from somewhere none the less. After the reflash it starts and is driven to the customer pickup area and that was it:mad: They tried the same reflash and nothing. So then they think it's a communication problem between computers so they flash the other one:mad:   Still nothing. So they order and install a new ECM and nothing. They did four other vehicles at one time and all are in the same condition. They have ordered the other computer for him in a desperate attempt to just keep changing parts until something works. We CTD owners are a rare breed out here and as such the dealership doesn't have much experience. It's been over a week now and my friend is going to rent a truck for work which the dealership will reinburse. Any ideas? What a crappy deal. I'll be checking often as will he. Thank you in advance.

Not for nothing but I would have them check their ECM interface cables they use for reflashing. Sounds like there is either a pin that is shoving a wire out the other side of the connector when the two are connected. OR there is a dead short in the cableing.

I mean it may have to do with something up to the point of connection. Not nessesarily the actual reflash itself.

FYI

Well, the truck is up and running. Here's the story:

Guy goes in to have the overheat code reset and dealership doesn't have the program/reflash so they have DC email it to them. They get it and plug into this guys truck and then nothing, won't start. They mess with everything for a while and end up just ordering a new ECM. It arrives and is not programed, don't know about that, but this is the story. Dealer doesn't want to risk trying to program/load it, so they send it back to DC to have it loaded and now, whalaa!!! Truck runs great. :D Maybe some kind of virus in the dealers computer or something in the attachment from DC, don't know. Just thought I would pass along just in case. Just installed an EZ last night for the guy. It's all down hill from here. :D :D :D
