This EB is great in traffic and, used judiciously, I could see getting 50,000 miles out of a set of brake pads. Plus, I love the looks on peoples' faces when I come coasting up next to them at a light, exhaust brake on, and their window is open. :D

I love when the people casually look over and then slowly raise their window :-laf. It makes our trucks sound just like an OTR truck. Oo.

The EB with a stick must work differently than the auto. My EB cuts out at 1100 RPM which is around 25 MPH. As I'm coming up to a light and coasting, I don't have any EB assistance since the engine is at idle.

50,000 miles? I have 176,000 miles on mine with plenty of pad left. On my 03 I went 210k before I changed the pads. Of course I do pull a trailer with electric/hydraulic disc brakes which probably help.

That's how they work. After using that setup, I'll never go back to the magnet type brakes again. The only type of trailer brakes that MIGHT be better are air brakes.

I too am finding little brake pad wear, considering I tow all the time. I'm expecting to see 120,000 miles on the OE set of pads.

I have used my EB all the time since I got my truck. I have been told to use it ALL the time. It will help with the turbo not getting plugged up. Also it just sounds great. Especially with an after market intake.

Did you figure out a way to make it louder?

I did figure out that clicking the auto into tow haul, and manually downshifting will get me down quite low on the speed before it relaxes.

EB use

on my 05 with the manual 6spd and jake brake I used the Jake ALL the time, and traded it in on my 08 with 97,700 and the brakes were perfect!

And I like the engine brake on the 6. 7's a lot more than the Jake Brake on the 5. 9's!!

e-brake use in snow

Actually Ive found that if Im in 4wd, using the jake brake or e-brake actually works much better to slow down than using the service brakes. The engine/exhaust brake does not cause a skid like applying the brakes can do on ice or slush, however if you are in 2wd, then YES watch out! Even that little bit of braking force applied only to the rear wheels can put you in a spin, just like suddenly downshifting on ice would do with out the e-brake.

I've found that by using my automatic transmission to downshift, when braking, the EB stays on almost all the way to a stop. Also, you can put the truck in "TOW/HAUL" mode, and this also keeps the EB on most of the way to a stop.
