Is it a major or impossible task to move an engine mounted APPS elsewhere besides the engine... where a fuel filter might fit neatly?

Since some trucks have them under the battery... how hard would it be? Exactly when did they relocate them? I've seen several trucks that I wouldn't have thought would have them on the engine but they do. I read on here they were moved in late 03 but am not sure.

I'm guessing the APPS units are totally different and the harness can't make the stretch. In addition to a new pedal cable. Just a guess.

My truck was built 2/28/03 and has the under-battery APPS. I believe the automatic trucks had the engine mounted APPS until later in 2003 than the manuals. Manuals had all switched over by early in CY 2003.

Good question, whether it's possible to swap them! The real question is whether the signals that each produces are the same. If they are, then the swap would merely involve a new pedal assembly and the new APPS.

If the signals are different... well. I have some sensor specifications, including resistances for the APPS in various positions. But it doesn't indicate which APPS the specs are for. That might mean it's the same for both, I don't know.

The one under the battery is a hall-effect device, whereas the engine-mounted one is a linear potentiometer. I believe the under-battery one is more reliable.

If it were me, I would think about keeping the engine-mounted APPS and removing the passenger side battery for a fuel filter mounting location. Then just run a larger driver side battery to compensate.

That's interesting - didn't know anyone was using Hall Effect devices in that function - sure would like to get more info on it... ;)

Me too. I can't even find where I read that. But I've been spouting it for 5 years now. Sure would be ashamed if it turned out I was wrong.

2003 manual says the APPS is a linear pot, but I'm under the impression they're referring to the engine-mounted one.

I moved my APPS from the engine to under the drivers side battery. The cable will reach, but I had to add length to the harness.

Moonranch... so you just moved what you had and didn't change to a different setup?

Are the OEM connectors for the linear potentiometer something that can be purchased to make a harness extender? I'd rather not "hack" the wires.

Yes, I just moved my stock APPS. I do not know about the connectors, I cut and soldered mine. I drilled holes in the bottom of the battery box to mount the APPS. The stock "throttle cable" was just long enough.

If you have the automatic Trans you will have two cables and the cruze control as well to move

I relocated my engine mounted APPS via the dual CP3 kit :-laf:D

Seriously, is it possible to just swap later APPS in to replace the older APPS? Is special DRB programming required?
