If I needed a replacement 12 valve engine I would be interested in one but would want to determine, if possible, who the seller claims actually rebuilt these engines. If it was Cummins, Inc. , they are probably great engines at bargain prices. If not, who knows?

The eBay listing does not plainly state who remanufactured the engines. The vague wording suggests they were the same engines once carried in inventory by Dodge dealers or the MOPAR parts system but doesn't ever plainly state that they were remanufactured by Cummins.

I don't know if the seller is careless about explaining his source or is trying to be clever and make it sound like the engines are genuine Cummins remans when they are not.

I have always believed that Dodge dealer reman engines were rebuilt by Cummins. Perhaps I am mistaken and Dodge had another source?

If the ad is truthful, yes, it probably is obsolete inventory in the Chrysler/Mopar parts distribution system. Their sales would be to Dodge dealers who are performing warranty work on customer vehicles. How long has it been since the five year/100,000 mile warranty expired on a ’98 12 valve?

The Cummins 5. 9L B-series engine is far from obsolete in other applications. There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of them providing unsurpassed dependability and continuous economical power to machinery and equipment throughout the world. I’ll bet the engine is still being built by Cummins partners/licensees in other parts of the world for use in powering machinery and equipment in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
