I was reading this from my notes. What a good story... ... ... ...

From 50mph to 100mph... .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just had to share this.....

A neighbour/friend across the street has a cousin who does "scrap work" ... engines, trannies, diffs, etc... as a matter of fact, his exhaust system is made from hacked/chopped/welded 4" driveshaft tubes... . see what I mean here... .

He has a nasty, butt ugly old Dodge with different colored fenders, tailgate, rust ... . man this thing would give you nightmares... right down to the hand operated nasty cherry picker on the back.

BUT... under the hood sits a sweet ole 440 CID recently rebuilt, and well tuned... .

It seems out front of my place there is a very long rubber mark that this guy saw. My neighbour told him it was Bob with the 6 cylinder diesel that did it..... "no way, no how" was the reply.....

Well, here I am rolling along our Lougheed Hwy for those who are familiar... it has some nice long stretches with big sweeping turns. .

I was on my way out to visit a member/guy at the eastern end of town...

I'm beedling along about 50 mph, and ahead I see 'ole Nick pull out onto the highway and move into the outside/curb lane.

As I pull along side we wave and smile..... I am slowly pulling past him, no hurry... .

When he is about flush with the tailgate I hear the ole hog motor start to rev and he's quickly pulling level and past me, a huge grin on his wiskered old face. .

When his tailgate is flush with my front bumper I realized what he was doing so, off we go... ...

I layed into it hard and the sweet sound of whistling boost climbs up and I'm starting to "fire pottery" under the hood... "Our Lady of Acceleration" don't fail me now... . quickly making the transition to HOB mode (hat on backwards) and SEDC (super eclipse death cloud) we're into an old fashion catch me if you can...

By 70 mph, I was again one full length ahead of Nick, and kept opening up the gap... 42psi, 1300*F and rockin on...

He quit about 90 mph as close as I can figure and, I finally bailed at 100 mph dead on the money,,,,, man what a hoot to see him pull up beside me and just shake his head, smile with all 4 of his teeth and give me the thumbs up... .

We ended up a good 5-6 lengths apart at the end... . Thank you PDR and DTT... ... SWEETTT... . !!!!

'Bungle in the jungle' boys.....

Padre Bob.

He was Bob Coe and used to work at PDR in southern BC, Canada, when Piers Harry owned it (he's now back at BD in the same general area). Bob was a TDR member.

Bob was a die hard 1st genner and was a wonderful writer. If you do a search for him you should pull up some of his posts. I had the pleasure of meeting him in person at PDR in 2004 when I drove down there for a big dyno day event in the fall. Great guy.

You a right about never the same, sorely missed.

Thanks Greenleaf :)

That was great! Thanks for the smile!

Man I miss that guy! So many ideas, good and bad! ;)

I bet he is still modding the forum here and playing with 1st gens. Just from the other side.

Also for those that did not know him, he had a natural way with these trucks. It was like the motor was an extension of himself and he knew what to do to fix any issue. He has some VERY good posts on here as to what to do and what not to do. I remember a story of him having his RPM run away on him due to too much fuel screw! That was a good one too! :D

We miss ya bro. :(

I have saved some of his PM's he had sent me... ..... almost brings a tear to the eye to read them... ... ... ... .....

Re: Winchester

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Scott,

I have an old Winchester that was purchased by my great grandfather when he came to Canada at the turn of the century.

He was a mining engineer and prospecto and needed a reliable ole lead chuker... it is a model 94 chambered in the ". 32 special".

My GGD gave it to my dad when he passed away, and my dad, passed it to me under the promise of never selling it.

I have not fired it in some years though, it's just a great old rifle. It is so easy to carry all day long, but I felt it was time to retire the old thing and maybe pass it on when when it comes time to meet my maker.

I currently carry/use a Winchester model 700 BDL chambered for the . 300 Win. Mag cartridge. Since I am only 5'6" and weigh 120 lbs that ole hog is a nasty ride when you pull the trigger.

It has not let me down to speak of though. It can really "reach out and touch someone errr... . something" if need be.

I think it's time to start using the Browning I have though... it's a . 308, far less heavy, less kick easier to pack all day.

I had the chance to cap off a couple rounds with a 45/70 at one of the local rifle ranges once..... heck if the bullet don't kill the animal the fireball will... .

The same guy who had the 45/70 also had a custom hand built falling breach . 55cal black powder... . now THAT was a thermo-nuclear event ... . not to mention leaving a pretty purple color on my shoulder afterward.

Well, that's it for now. Stay in touch and try to stay under the radar.....

Bob.

Jay got burned one time; really bad. I think he lost all his RWHP points and had to say seven "male harries", stay after class etc.

The good pastor even changed Jay's signature. It was ugly with a capitol Ug.

Was the single most funny thing I had ever seen in all my years, hands-down.

I recieved 240 HP one time!!!! Read this... ... ... .....

From November of 03

Male harries! LOL Forgot about that too! :D

Jay in the dog house and Leaf getting points. Why does that seem so normal? LMAO :D

Fun to remember. He was real good with the newbies, too. Made everyone feel welcome. Fun to read the stuff you saved, Scott. Keep them coming if you don't mind.
