BEST wishes for the Holidays...

TV stations would sign off at 11PM?

Gas was 50c a gallon?

Setting the points in your car or motorcycle? If you were sharp you might have a dwell meter.

You mixed motor oil in the fuel of your boat?

If you didnt get a clear picture you would wiggle the tuner.

A/C was an option for your car.

I remember getting into CB and then wanting out because of all the Lids and profanity. HAM radio was the next step. In those days the licenses were not give aways. I studied morse code for weeks and took an electronics class at night at the local college to master the theory (we didnt have the questions in advance). Now being a HAM license is about as difficult as checking your email. As evidenced by the decline in the conduct on the bands.

Any other memories?

Yea, I forgot about that one! And the TV test pattern too.

Wow, have things ever changed. That reminded me of the NASA news briefs during the commercial breaks too. And there were just 4 commercial breaks as well.

No infomercials. Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Gilligans Island.

Best of all: NO RAP "music"

"dont turn the knob so fast youll break it!"
"this is a test of the emergency broadcast system... BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP"
"hello,I'm MR. ED"
"WOO,WOO,WOO,WOO,WOO,soitenly" "hey,MOE!!"
"Hey! It's RUBBER DUCK from alberquacky!!"

Margerine was white and had a color pill in the plastic bag tht it came in and you worked it till it was all yellow.

Ringer washers.

Remember SERVICE stations.

Clean the windshield

Check the oil water and tires

23 cents a gallon and a set of glasses too

MY Dad bought gas for 12 gallons for $1 !!!:eek:

He bought a shotgun in Bamburgers in Newark NJ.:eek: And in Korvetts in W Orange.

I remember the gas lines in 1974. Watching the war on the news. (Vietnam)

I used to ride my bicycle from my house (in West orange NJ ) to Newark to Visit my Dad at work, Bloomfield to go to a motorcycle shop, and Slegers & Forbes on rt 23. :D

I remember we got stopped on rt 81 south in New York. Dad almost went onto the NY thruway by accident. He was backing down the on ramp. There was a soft pistol case in full view in the back shelf in the 65 Chrysler (was always a Mopar family). The NYSP didnt even acknoledge it. :D

Ahhh them was the days... ...

Returnable bottles? As I kid we coolected them for candy $$ or fuel for the go karts.

The little seals inside the soda bottle caps? We would dig them out for some reason.

The little flare guns that looked like big pencils. My sister carried one in her jeep for self defence.

Riding bikes till dark with friends and when we got home, mom would ask if we had fun. Must have been a safer time...

The vacuum tube tester at the corner store, so you could fix your own TV.

remember when buses were for kids who lived AWAY from the school, and you walked to the bus stop hung with your friends and if your parents drove you to school it was because you were special or in trouble!

I remember gas at . 24 cents a gallon, riding the go cart to circle k and buying a slurpy and 15cents of gas to fill it up, going home watching BONANZA on tv. and when kids including myself were afraid of getting in trouble with my parents or anyone elses, cause if they knew my dad he would just tell them to bust my arse if I did something wrong. And teachers were not afraid of the students.

Remember when people would actually assume responsibility for their own actions and there was alot less lawyers.

Heck remember when lawyers actually had ETHICS

Drinking out of plain old garden hoses.

Playgrounds with tall swings, monkey bars, and pea gravel or dirt in the fall zone.

Your folks knowing you did something bad before you got home... and doing something about it.

Playing in the woods of PA until you heard the whistle. And you better beat feet to get home quick!

Getting swatted by the teacher in kindergarten because you were late getting back to class after recess. You were never late again.

Dressing up to go on the plane because it was special.

Listening to NASCAR on the radio because it was hardly ever on TV. Hearing about Petty, Allison, and the others and picturing it in your head.

TV dinners took 1 hour to cook because there weren't microwaves yet. And after it was done, you sat with the family, not the TV, and ate.

You didn't know hardly anyone whose parents were divorced.

Drinking out of plain old garden hoses.

I still do that, and that well goes to the cattle lot as well. I'm still kickin' and no tapeworm. :-laf:-laf

You didn't know hardly anyone whose parents were divorced.

On my dads side of the family, there has only been one divorce to my knowledge, for over 100 years. Only been some that have been separated by death and remarried. Moms side is the COMPLETE opposite. Minimum 3 divorces for most of them. My parents are still happily married. :)
