I worked in the financial industry regulatory section (Washington state) at that time. Lost a couple acquaintances from Cantor Fitzgerald that day. Phone went dead as I was calling. The majority of their US workforce was in a special meeting that morning. 658 were lost. A coworker of mine said she heard on the radio on her way in to work that an airplane had hit one of the twin towers. We tuned in to the news on the TV in our conference room. Saw the second aircraft hit. Had a lot of friends that were lucky in the second tower; the stories of fear, compassion, and heroism were overwhelming from those who experienced this travesty. Finally got in touch with most of my contacts two months later once they were able to set up their offices in alternate locations. A lot of sad and heroic stories. Very sad day. And the effects are still being felt today. God bless them all.

I had just returned from a business meeting. When I came into the house, my wife was watching on tv and said a plane had just hit the twin towers building. They still thought it was an accident. Well, I had the presence of mind to pop a vcr tape into the machine and saw what happened after that and the second plane hitting the second tower.
My best friend growing up had an office in the pentagon. He was home that day. His office was destroyed.
Another girl that I went to school with lives back there. Her husband was in the tower, but he escaped.

I was working that morning. The two foresters who marked the job came in for their regular inspection and told me what happened and said they thought it was an attack. I immediately called my wife who worked for the State and told her to leave and go straight home, just in case.
If I had my way, every year, on September 11 everyone in our Country over the age of 12 would be forced to watch the attack and not be allowed to look away as people jumped to their deaths to escape the inferno. Then they might understand why we fight, every day.
