Happy Birthday Doctinker

OK I know we all have diesel fever and the BOMBing sickness that comes with it, But how many of you are Nitro Freaks too? My second favorite smell after diesel is the smell of burning nitro in my BOMB'd out Traxxas T-maxx complete with Ram Quad cab body? Or My kids brand new HPI Savage!

Post A Pic!!!!!!!!!!

It has been atleast 5 years since I have messed with my R/C truck... ... It is a 1/8th scale truck with a 400. 00 engine. It does 60mph. But like I said that was 5 years ago... ... ... not sure if I could even get it to run anymore... ... ...

I have the USA 1 nitro crusher. Bought it in 92. Thing was nutz. I only ran 10% nitro. I seized up one motor. Took out a rear pinion. That was it for me. Stored away in the boxes some where.

I also have a t-maxx with the . 21 conversion. Man those things get wicked fast with that motor. Just think an 8lb truck with 1. 5 hp. Talk about get up and go. I only have the aluminum hardcore a-arms and aluminum skid plates.

TnlRacing,

Do you have any problems with ripping out drive shafts?? I know I do. Need more power though:D

Drive shafts are a major problem for me, I have a rossi motor that is worked by Ron Paris. My truck is quite heavy also weighing in at about 13 lbs with approx 2. 3hp.

The only things that are not New Era aluminum are, the transmission, and the front and rear diffs. every thing else is billet

Here is my T-Maxx

it is a . 21 8. 5 lbs and 2. 1 hp runs on 20% nitro methane @ $22 per gallon. Lots of aluminum and some titainium. Best jump so far is 29 feet in length and over 6 feet in ht.

And it is a peterbuilt!!!!!!!!!!!

a 38,000 rpm peterbuilt!!!!

what do you guys think?

DD

Oohhh,, I think i found my next body for my T. Which conversion did you guys use for the . 21 swap. Did you use a stretch chassis or did you cram it in the stocker. Ive been thinking about doing the cram method, i want a weelie monster and dont really want the truck any longer.

PS. any of you guys have any other nitro cars?? I have a 4-tec PRO with a trinity picco . 16. You want to talk about fast, that thing is wicked:D

I actually had my own extended chassis made, I have a extra if you want to go the extended route. I also have a HPI Savage, and a HPI Super RS4 all tricked out

I have been running MIP CVD steel shafts in the rear cause i was breaking them with the stock motor. One of the reasons i was thinking of going stock length chassis on my conversion was so i could run the MIP center drives. (by now they may be making extended ones, i don't know) Have you guys tried beefing the plastic ones with any luck. I saw an article on one of the sites about glueing wood dowels in the center of the inner shafts to help keeping them from collapsing under severe loads. Haven't tried it yet cause with the . 15 i havent been twisting the center shafts. I also was told the new shafts out of the factor. 25 maxxes were a little beefier. Any truth to that ??

Rubberneck,

Yes the dowel trick helps. I have been chasing the twisted driveshaft problem for a while. I have fab'd a double disc brake system, which inturn twist's the front axles the other way due too excessive braking power. (it will front flip at will with too much application of the brakes) Trust me you need this kind of braking performance w a . 21  An additional trick to strenghting the driveshaft's is to add more outer sleve material over the inner area to resist twisting. I have just purchased the complete replacement driveshafts, outdrives, and axles for the new 2. 5 maxes and will install shortly. They are beefier. If you do this keep in mind the steel u-balls have larger dia pins and you will have to get the complete set or drill out the old items. I decided to start over with all of the axle items. I am running mip cvd's for the front and rear driveshafts. They are the extended length for my 1" longer XTM chassis

FYI the pics i posted are when my truck had a . 15/std length chassis.

Best regards

DD

I put in a JR high torque servo for the throttle/brake, and that is one of the best mods i have done. My truck will also endo with too much brake. I didnt realize how much better it worked untill i drove a stock max a while back. yucky. So they do make the longer center drives. I think i will go that route. Hey dieseldan, what . 21 are you running, i cant decide which power plant to go with. Have you guys put in the reverse eliminator kit?? I have been told this really helps beef the trans with the bigger power of the . 21

I also have this RC model, which originally came with a Chevy lookalike convenience package. I ran it for several years on 10% Nitro and then seized one engine and threw a rod. You have to remember that when you're pushing 50mph+ across the field, when you make contact with bumpy ground, the thing will take off (literally) and without the wheels on the ground, the engine can very easily be over revved - we're talking about exceeding 35,000rpm.

Now it's been well and truly bombed with a bodywork upgrade from a scale model Dodge 2500 3/4 ton and another (bigger, natch ;)) racing engine, performance clutch and suspension and tuned exhaust, which is still running in at 20% Nitro with a self-imposed ceiling limit of 25,000rpm. 10% and 35,000rpm is entirely possible!!This thing is definitely NUTZ :D:D I share it/(supervise) with my son because it's no fun being accidentally on the receiving end of one of these models if you ever lose control - toys they definitely aint!! If you're not too sure about bombing your truck, then this is the next best thing, but by then it's probably too late :D:D
