My '99 came with power door locks, but I'd like to install a MOPAR remote unit. Has anyone installed one on a rig similar to mine? The 5 Star (yeah, right) dealer I went to with questions said that it would cost me $195 for the remote control under-dash unit with two remotes; $60 for the wiring harness (is it "plug-n-play"?... if so I'll save some bucks on installation) :) and approximately $120 for two hours of shop labor to install. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Loren

I also installed one from J. C. Whitney ($49), it also included a remote start, works great. Took about 10 hours to install but if you just did the keyless locks it would take a couple of hours. Most time consuming part is finding the right colored wires in the tight bundles.

Gents,

Thanks much for the input. This is one accessory install that I haven't ever tackled before. Sounds like it's within my capabilities. I'll probably give it a go sometime around Thanksgiving.

Thanks again.

I also installed the J. C. Whitney remote door lock. I found that per the wiring manual that all of the door lock wires passed through the passengers door, so I was able to install the receiver behind the door panel. It works great.

I installed a J. C. W. $29 unit but the instructions

were wrong and I burned out the circut board. It took me 4hrs. to get it all sorted out and the board fixed.

PS Nice name.

My 99 came without power locks or alarm. I bought a JCW alarm with power locks and installed it. From start to finish with clean up I took almost 8 hours. . but that was a complete alarm install too... plus I had on problem with a relay harness with the kit from JCW, one of the diodes used to protect from the reverse EMF of the relay coil was installed from the factory backwards... took a bit of time to find out why the locks would lock, but not unlock.

Just to let you know that there is now easy way to install a "factory" keyless entry. The one done at the factory is completely different than the dealer installed Mopar unit, if you truck (as mine did) came from the factory without keyless entry.

The dealer installed unit is just like doing your own from JCW. . but anything you buy from JCW , you need to cut and splice the trucks wiring.

Make sure if you tackle it that you have a FSM to sort the wiring out and know what your cutting and splicing.
