As the title says, are there any other remote filters besides the prime loc? I hate the factory filter and was wondering if I could maybe use a a cheaper remote filter than the prime loc. I am looking to get rid of the stock filter assembly as well as the fuel heater. I am getting poor mileage and just want rule out any leaks, get rid off all that junk, and go to a simpler system that is easy to change.

Thanks,

Jamie

Stanadyne makes several differant filter systems(Fuel Manager) They are OEM suppliers to several OEM manufacturer ex. Cat, Deere, CNH, Perkins. They have several differant choices ranging from basic filter, to heated or lift pump.

I think about any injection shop should be able to ehlp you with this.

I installed a Racor 445R fuel filter/water sep. with the clear bowl. I mounted it just to the left of the master cylinder when looking at the engine from the front. I removed the small 90 degree hose between the lift pump and the prefilter and went from the lift pump to the Racor and then to the prefilter. I use the 10 micron elements and change it about every 6 - 8K miles or when needed. I usually change the stock filter every couple of years. I also installed a WIF sensor in the Racor and spliced the sensor into the original WIF circuit being it is now the first filter inline. The thing I like about this filter is the primer bulb on top. After a filter change (even if I changed both filters and install them dry) you just pump it till you can hear the fuel going through the overflow valve and then start your engine. It's right there on top and easy to get to versus trying to use the one on the lift pump. Plus the clear bowl gives you a visual indication of the quality of your fuel whenever you pop the hood.

So you use the Racor as well as the stock filter or did you eliminate the stocker? Thanks for the info. I asssume that if I eliminate the fuel heater and stock fuel filter, I just run from lift pump to the new filter and then dirrectly to the inj. pump right? If so can i just use *** rubber hose since it probably won't go over what 30 or 40 psi max?

Thanks,

Jamie

I kept the stock filter in addition to the Racor filter. It's just another reservoir in case I would get a slug of bad fuel or water. As for using rubber hose, I think I would stay with a hose rated for diesel service. I'd rather be over protected than under protected. With the two filters in series, I haven't noticed any performance problems. I checked the prefilter about 50K miles ago and it looked brand new, no trash or anything. I believe with the Racor being the first filter, it may be absorbing some of the shock pulses from the lift pump, just my thinking.
