I am interested in buying a remote start for my 2006 CTD. What brands are out there? Is a factory installed system as good as an aftermarket and will it work with a manual transmission? I would like some opinions on what brand I should buy. My truck is a 2006 3500 6speed. I have the key that is all inclusive, with the remote entry and what not. Could this be utilized or will I need to get new keys? Finally how hard would the install be? Thanks in advance for opinions, ideas and suggestions.

I am also wanting a remote start for my truck, I think what i'm going for is going to be the dodge/chreysler factory remote start, because you don't have to hack ur wiring harness up whaen installing it, beacause it has a wire harness that you just plug into your harness. It is expensive though, i plan on installing it myself though, i don't have the secerity key system. If you have a factory secerity you might want them to insatall it. As for other good aftermarket brands, their is compustar, viper, audiovox.

I can not advise you on a stick shift application but for an automatic I would suggest you consider a Viper Alarm System. This system gives you a two way alarm transmitter, a remote start that can be tied into the engine ready light or be set for an ajustable timed delay, and a cool down delay. You also have an aux button that can be used for you choice of options. I tied mine into an LED light rope that provides me with an interior light for my capper.

i priced the oem one at the dealer for my 05 it was $300 for just parts cost, no installlation. If you have a secerity system it could be more.

Don't Get One.

DON'T GET ONE UNLESS YOU HAVE A REAL NEED eg PHYSICAL IMPAIRMENT ETC. IT JUST WASTES FUEL and the diesel takes soo long to heat up anyway.

I recently installed the OEM model myself. I can't guess at your abilities, but the only remotely 'scary' part is that you have to tap into a wire (cut away insulatin and solder a tee) for the tach signal I think it was. The basic OEM model is as good as other after market ones I've had on other trucks, and the remote fob is amazingly small. I can start my truck from my third foor office while the truck is four or five rows out. I'm impressed. Had I known the basic range was so good I probalby would not have also purchase the upgraded to the two-way remote. The theory behind the two-way is you can start the vehicle blind, and the remote will blink and beep periodically to let you know the engines is running. I didn't get it to work right the first time I tried to install, and I have not gone back to try and fix it. The basic one really woprks very well by itself. I purchase from Wyckoff-Chrysler and they were great to work with, and knew just what components were required. The parts, wire bundle and hardware, are sold separately and are application specific.

I have the Dodge dealer installed remote start on my 2005, I had it added onto the purchase price of the truck along with sprayin bedliner, tube steps etc...

I have been very happy with it. Use it all the time when its cold, with the truck plugged in at night (on a timer) I can start it up from in the house, put on my tie and brush my teeth, by time I get out to the truck (3-5 minutes) its warmed up and defrosted.

In the summer I use it to cool it off with the A/C before I even go out the door. Works really great in the summer when I'm wearing shirt and tie clothes.

I don't use it when it's just normal tempetures, waste of fuel then.

Works great. My wife likes it so much demanded remote start on her car we bought new in August.

Factory remote start is only available on Automatics. You have to have the clutch engaged to start a manual transmission, so remote start would require a bypass. Doubt DC would want to go down that road for liability reasons. Seems like a "neutral position sensor" switch could be designed. I always park mine in neutral with the parking brake engaged.

I use mine all the time. Here in Texas, the AC cooling the interior is a nice feature. The dealer quoted me ~800 installed. I opted for a DEI (owns viper and clifford) alarm system installed by cartoys for 1k. The truck will start from a long way off. Make sure they use the glowpug light, not a time delay and tach sensor and not voltage sense which ever way you go. Voltage sense is a poor method of controlling the end of starter function and will not be reliable in hot or cold weather with AC or heater on. As mentioned previously, don't plan on this alone as a resolution to long warm-ups, it wont do much there.

You will also need an extra valet key for the install if you go after-maket.

I had the dealer install on my last two trucks. Wouldn't not have one at this point, especially in winter, they are great. $350 dollars total, been with this salesman for a while, he shaved some money off the price. I looked around for an aftermarket on my 03 six speed, but couldn't find anyone willing to take the risk. I understand there are some folks that will install them and make them for six speeds, but haven't researched it in a while.

Good luck.
