Is there a good brand of remote starters for the truck??

Now that winter is here, I hate having to go out clean off the snow over the drivers door, start truck, run back in. You get the DRIFT! (pun intended;)):-laf

Anyhoo, is there a prefered brand??

Maybe a better question. Is a remote start bad for the 6. 7 as it will now idle more??

Thanks!

Idling is not a good thing for these trucks unless you alter your emissions and remove all the DPF/Nox filters. If you still have the stock emissions system and you use the vehicle for heavy work or travel long distances, then idling should be fine. I think the high temperatures will help to burn all the crap from the filters.

Prolong idling is bad but you still need to let the thing warm up before you drive it.

I'm also looking into a remote start for my truck if anyone has any suggestions.

I have a Scosche brand that I do not like. It's flakey and not reliable.

I had a BullDog in one of my previous vehicles. It worked real well. One feature that it had would start the truck every three hours and then shut it down after 15 minutes. That was real handy here in Alaska when I was in -40 weather and there was not anywhere to plug in. Many of these remotes also have a turbo cooldown setting. I recommend checking into the features before you decide.

AstroStart was a popular brand for the 9 years in Alaska and it is pretty common around here to.

But what about the remote start Dodge offers, I see it listed as an option on new trucks and I'm not sure what years it would cover 08-09 for sure. I would think that it would be more plug and play than the others. Dodge says no idling but sells a remote start for the CTD what does that say about idling?

Go to the dealer. iTS A little pricey (I wittled one at $227) It plugs in, NO WIRES TO CUT!! BUT..... The deal HAS TO install it! Well, I installed mine in there parking lot the they programed it. The TIPM must be updated to have the remote start as a dealer istalled option or it WILL NOT WORK. They connect there copmuter to your truck AND dealer connect AT THE SAME TIME in order to do this. Other that all that I love it. NO extra FOBs the kit comes with 2 keys that they cut and program to the truck (your old keys still work too!) The new keyss have an extra button un it for the starter. ALSO just to buy a new spare key is @ $200 so this kit is nice!!!!

just my opinion;)
