New trucks can have remote start right? Does the engine manage idle speed or anything else to help warm up if remote start is used? Is it still not recommended to idle these engines?

I almost would like a new owner update sticky, my gen 2 is a different beast than the 6. 7s... Not a big deal though. Just have to keep reading. :)

My 2012 came with a remote start. I have not had much of a chance to use it in the cold but I think it does idle up. I know it turns on the heated seat & steering wheel. It also waits to start until the grid heaters have cycled. I've never been a big fan of remote starts but I can see where it may be nice to have.

Yes, the ECU will do an automatic idle-up if the temperatures are cold enough when the remote start is used. You can program the truck to do all kinds of stuff (like the seat & steering wheel heaters, the A/C, etc. ) when it's used by using the EVIC Setup option. It's a nice feature - glad we ordered it!

The remote start is supposed to work up to 300 or so feet from the truck... mine works well. It's only available from the factory with an automatic transmission and it's standard with the Longhorn package. It allows you to start the truck 2 times and the truck runs for 15 minutes each time, before you have to go out and start it with the key... same set-up as the HEMI.
