Are you looking for just a remote starter? Do you have power locks? Why a remote start/keyless entry combo.

If so the absolute best remote start/keyless entry units are made by DEI. Their 552t Model is w/ keyless entry, and their 551r (I'm not 100% sure on that part number) is remote start only. Both of these usits are very easy to install and are top notch in quality.

The 551r sells online for ~$90 while the 552t is ~$125. There are certainly others, but I have had great luck with DEI products in the past. I have installed a number of these on my friends vehicles and have not had a problem with one of them.

There are certainly others, but I am just suggesting what has worked extremely well for me.

Hope this helps,

Ryan

As far as I know, there is not direct "plug and play" remote starter for our trucks, with or without the factory keyless entry.

You best bet is the 551r and you could probably wire it to fire off your factory keyless remote. That way you don't have to carry 2 remotes.

I had the solaris installed on my truck Ive had it a yr and a half and not rouble its great if the batt volts get to low it starts the truck for a short time and if it gets to cold outside I think like below -20 it also starts the truck it has a lot of other functions but I like it alot!!

Do the remote start systems wait for the "wait to start" light to go out before they start? I just installed one in wifey's Intrepid and it wasn't to bad. Best of all everything connected under the dash, nothing under the hood to survive the elements.

I have seen 2 differnt methods to cope with the wait to start light. One does recieve a signal from the wait to start light and when the light goes off, it fires the truck. The other is just a timer, and after 30 seconds it starts the truck.

Does anybody have the link for the Solaris remote start? I'm looking to get one in my truck also. I just ordered the high idle switch, and want the remote start to fire that off as well. Either as being set in a timed circuit or by the remote. I also thought that if the voltage could be set low enough that a "blinker" may beable to cycle the high idle on and off. Keep in mind, it would have to be a low enough voltage that it wouldn't run up, spin down, run up, spin down, something like high idle for a minute, idle for a minute...

I purchased the one from Harold Bowers. The one using the older style choke selonoid. In all honesty, $45 is a bit for what it is, but I'm getting ready to move and I don't have the time to fab one up. I opted for the kit with the momentary switch. I figured that one would be easiest to wire into a remote start in some manor.

Corey,

I have one of Harold's units aas well. Although it is not on the truck yet. I took if off so the stealer could do my throttle cable recall, and just haven't put it back on yet.

You can't put the selenoid on a pulse circuit (if I am understanding you correctly). The selenoid is not stong enough to push the throttle lever on its own. You need to step on the throttle, turn the selenoid on, and then push the button for the selenoid. It is strong enough to hold the throttle open, but not push it open. You could energize the selenoid after you shut the truck down (if you wired it to a constant power source) and keep the throttle open. Then the truck will start with the high idle engaged.

Some place out of Canada makes a high idler that runs off the cruise control and theirs does work well with a remote starter. It waits for ~30 seconds (if I remember correctly) after the truck starts and then idles up. The price is up there on their units. They are over $200.

Hope this helps,

Ryan

I have an Avital remote starter and I wouldn't trade it for anything else. It waits until the "wait to start" goes out before it fires and works with my keyless entry that came from DC. :)

My girlfriend just installed one in her truck with the optional alarm from the same company. (Although they were recently bought out by Viper I believe) She loves her's too. :)

One thing - If you ever plan on getting an alarm, Do it at the same time with the starter. I was planning on getting one later and they said I would have to get a whole new unit and trash my old one :(

Cooker,

Well that sure would have been nice to have known before hand... Damn, I never thought about that. I honestly don't know if I would have spent $50 if I had known about that issue...

Well I'm sure I'll think of something. I don't really like the idea of leaving the thing on for 8+hrs just to have it high idle in the morning...

Thanks,

Corey,

I wouldn't worry about the draw of the selenoid. Personally I would be more concerned about the truck starting and running right up to 1100-1200 RPM w/o letting the oil splash around at least a little bit first.

I have an Astrostart from Astroflex an very pleased with it. It is a Canadian company and have been making them for a long while now. I like them over DEI because with Astroflex there is a lot more things you can get hooked up, like windows, radio, and just about anything else. My truck will even start, if I want it too, when the temp. gets a certain degrees. The only draw back is if you live in the south it may be a little hard to find. Do a seach for Astroflex and you can check out what they have and the nearest dealer.

I talked to a guy a while back and his Jag. was hooked up to his cell phone. If his alarm went off he got a call. He could actully call his car to start, stop, set the alarm or have the alarm sound. Is there no end to this madness.
