going to change out rear brake shoes this weekend. would imagine that the springs are pretty hefty. will I need some brake spring pliers?

Ain't to bad can be done without them , but they deffinatly will help. I got one to do this weekend . at the most I'm looking at an hourand a half to do.

A little tip. Do one side at a time so if you get confused you can look at the other side to help figure it out. Especially note which is the front shoe and which is the rear.

brakes

I had a tire shop replace the rears on my one ton and they got the primary and secondary shoes mixed up causing premature wear and as a result had to replace the drum as it went metal to metal. As I replaced the brakes myself the next time I saw how easy it was to do this as the emergency brake cable attaches differently on each side. stormy

This Dodge was the first time I've ever had to replace drum brakes before. With no special tools, the first side took about 1 - 1 1/2 hrs as I went real slow and unsure. The other side took maybe 1/2 hr. It won't be any sweat for you at all. The springs ARE stout though I'll admit.
