Past threads say dealers will "update" stock chip with lattest data anytime you take your truck in, and, that this update wipes out Edge programing. Is this still the case? If so, is it true for Edge Comp as well?

signed-Trying to decide which box to buy!

The edge boxes are standalone, so the programming won't be erased (as far as I know) during the 'reflashes'. What the dealer will do is void your warranty if they see a box hooked to your truck. Taking off the box for dealer trips is fraud. If your comfortable with that, then the EZedge is 'almost' undetectable. The Edge Comp is given away by the pierced pump wire after the box is removed.

Take off the box. Make the truck as close to stock as possible. Your dealer would love to void your warranty!

If you're worried about warranty coverage, don't buy either box. When you step across the line into bombing, you become your own warranty station.

Not trying to fool dealer or perpitrate fraud, just want to protect my future investment. Do I need to remove it (whichever I buy) to maintain original programing of the Edge???

In an overgeneralized sense, the ECM and PCM programming and the programming in the Edge box (either of them) are entirely separate issues. The Edge boxes basically override commands given by the ECM to the VP44. The EZ does this through the data port on the CANbus - the Comp (if you so elect to utilize the capability) goes even further by sending its own signal via the pump wire!

Having said that, I would unplug the Edge box from the CANbus data port if I were reflashing the ECM just on general principles.

You ALREADY voided the warranty when you modified the truck, are you now asking if it's ok to lie about it?... ... . NO

Well, what "I" would do is disconnect the Edge product but leave it in the physical location. Go ahead and tell the dealer that you use the Edge and any other mods you have made. I did not pierce the pump wire because I did not need to, but would disconnect the Edge, leave it there, try not to reflash anything unless ABSOLUTELY necessary (if it ain't broke don't fix it!).

I run mine the way I run mine. If they can't deal with that then I have found a dealer that knows full well what mods I have made, and I will show them to him. If I broke something because of running it with a mod then I fix it. If I broke something because it broke and has nothing to do with the mods then he fixes it.

Hard to find a dealer that is straight up with you and you with him!

YOU break it, your fault, YOU fix it.

You break it, not your fault, he fixes it.

Dang guys lets take it easy here. I know there are many threads on this but the person was asking more if they would get caught type of thing. I think what RowJ is most concerned about is having his Edge box get screwed up if the dealer reflashes his truck not can he get away with hiding the bombs to his truck. I dont blame em, the dealer alot of time has hard enough time fixing the truck right when its stock, dont give them a box they know nothing about attached to the truck, more for them to screw up! IMO, keep the thing in the truck just unplug it completely so there isnt a chance they do anything goofy to your Edge box. just my humble opinion

Definately unhook the COMP if getting reflashed (MAP and Data plug). It CAN fry the COMP when they "reflash". Whether you take it out of the truck completely is upto you.

Come on my people, quit whining! Out of the hundreds of thousands of Dodge diesel buyers of 'Cummins powered' rigs, be honest, we modifiyer's "are our own warranty station!" Our question is:, where are all of the 'renegade' diesel mechanics out there?

I've personally spent over $10,000 on 'non warranty' upgrades and repairs that would have been otherwise covered if I had not messed around with my truck!(including waiting on a new ordered VP44 pump)

For example:

A close friend of mine visiting from me from Texas is on his '5th' DTT transmission rebuild," and his second 'VP44' replacement, with no complaints I might add, (after several 1/4 mile drag runs,) (with much success) even taking extra days from his company vacation, just for another 'J & H' DTT rebuild of his transmission!

Oh well, Dodge Diesels are great, but also suck!

Hay guys I run a EDGE box been to many dealers around the US . Have had 2 lift pumps replaced no problems, but I don,t hid any thing. The one thing every service writer tells me is what a nice truck I have. Don't know where the dealers are that are giving everyone a bad time, but don't want to run in to them. Dun had mine reflashed with the edge box connect. I takes it in likes I drives it :D

No, He's asking if his truck gets reflashed with the EZ installed, will the EZ Programming be erased.

No it will not, but as KatDiesel said,, it can fry it.

------

The add on boxes for the 6. 0 PowerStroke CAN be reflashed at the dealer.

No flames, just trying to stand up a bit for RowJ.

RowJ, if you juat want a little HP, and that's all, do an EZ, if you want a little HP now, and will probably upgrade for more HP later, get a COMP. A COMP can be run just like an EZ, as long as you don't pierce the injection pump wire.
