I would like to remove the logos from the tailgate and sides of my '05. I know they are stuck on, what's the secret to removing them without damaging the paint?

I will try to make this short. There are a lot of threads on this and other forums about how to debadge. I have debadged the last two trucks. The first one I did with the most common recommendations. That is use heat gun to heat badge, use fishing line to saw between the 3m tape and body, then use goo/tar remover/some cleaner to clean up what is left. This will work, but takes a while and makes for very sore fingers.

What I did on my current truck.

Put 3" painters tape above and below the badge line. This to keep from scratching the paint.

Took a 3" wide sharp plastic/teflon scraper. With the scraper I "shaved" each badge off as close to the badge as possible. This left as much of the 3m tape on the body. You should not need to heat, just firm pressure to shave the badge off.

Then use finger nail/finger to start one corner of the tape off the body. You need just enough to get a hold on. You can use needle nose plyers or such, but I used fingers to not worry about scratches. If you pull on the tape as parallel to the body as possible, it will sort of come apart. It will stay together, but release all tension from the body and come off. You should be able to get the tape off in one or two pieces this way. Try this on one of the badges and see if you can master this technique. If you can it will save you hours and sore fingers.

When you get done you should have very little tape residue around the edges of the badge. This you can clean with bug tar/goo/wd40/any cleaner of this type. A little wax and your done.

I'd like to at least replace all the plastic chrome emblems with vinyl decal versions. It's a pain to try and clean/wax around the letters and numbers. It takes long enough as is to clean the beast.

I used a strand from nylon string for removal, and then a non-acetone fingernail polish remover for the gum & sponge. Works well.
