Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Remove rollover valve?

How do you remove the rollover valve from the fuel tank?



While working on a hard to start problem on my son's 96 we went through the entire fuel delivery system and fixed ALL the leaks. Used Joe George's great write up and did everything. Both lines, pre heater, pre filter, hose on pump and checked tank inside. Tried to remove the rollover valve and could not get it out. Pulled REALLY hard. Twisted, threatened it, cussed, would not budge. So now it leaks fuel when tank is filled. GRRRRRR!



Ordering a new valve and grommet from dealer. Short of drilling it out what is the trick to get this thing out? I am hesitant to just trying to seal it with something.

Just get two screwdrivers four hands and pry it up. It's a bugger but it will come out. When you had the module out did you check the fuel lines in it. When I had a hard start and high R. P. M. low power I found that one of the screws that holds the module halves together had rubbed a hole in the pick-up line. Look close it's hard to see.

We never suceeded in removing it! Just pulled and pried and was afraid of breaking it!



When we drop the tank I intend to put in a new valve and grommet. I was thinking that cutting the grommet may be a good method but didn't have a new one on hand then. The truck is now running fine since reworking the entire fuel system, it just leaks fuel from between the grommet and the rollover valve when topped off. I guess that is due to hardening of the original grommet.



Also need to fix a small boost leak from the Banks Stinger install. But it runs nice.
