Removed Airbox Boot

In attempt to get the motor to warm up a bit quicker, I removed the airbox boot today. It seems to me that with the boot removed the airbox would now induct more snow/water, especially that which rolls off the hood.
This would obviously be a bad thing.

I'm also thinking of drilling a few holes on the engine side of the airbox, but I'm not sure I want to do this yet.

Any thoughts?

I did already block the radiator and am thinking about blocking the intercooler or removing the fan.

I like the idea of pulling air from inside the fender well, away from the road dust & spray that can enter the air box from under the hood. I have thought about removing the fan, but it's too cold to mess with right now, and the fan shroud is in the way. I really think it would be a better truck in the winter time without the fan. I don't know how much HP it robs, but I'm not towing right now, and have way too much cooling system for this kind of weather.

Here is what I've noticed.

IMO the engine doesn't warm up any quicker, in fact I think it may even take a bit longer.

One thing for sure is the turbo whistle is definitely more noticable.

For me, the boot goes back in, and maybe it is time to drill a coulpe holes.
