I took out the silencer ring on my '95 CTD and its not any louder than it was before. There is only the very faintest hint of a turbo whine. The engine has a good rumble to it, but it was like that before as well. Is this normal? I want a little more whistle...

All the other stock trucks I've driven have far more whine from the turbo than this one with the ring taken out. I still have a stock style air filter and will leave that in 'til its dirty and replace it with the Amsoil/Donaldson unit or a BHAF.

I think the turbo is a WH1-C, I thought a HX-35W was stock on a '95?

Darn, sorry to hear that. I have two TD Cummins, and have never heard the slightest whine from either of them. Even think sometimes maybe the darn things aren't even spinning! I grew to love the whine of the 3406 Cat turbo I had in the Kenworth, sort of miss it, and was hoping taking the silencer ring out would let it talk to me more. .

The 94's had the WH1-C, 95's had the 35. There really isn't much difference between the two, they share the same exhaust housings. Mine did get louder with the silencer removed. Try pulling the duct out that goes between the filter box and the fender. That's the biggest restriction in a stock filter set up. Your passenger might not like the noise, it gets pretty loud on that side.

I recently ran mine with a dirty Amsoil in the stock box and barely pulled the filter minder down. You might not need an after market filter for a while.

I`ll second RBratby... you`ll get a lot more out of it with the BHAF. Probably get more MPG and better boost due to the increased air flow too. . I think its worth trashing the stock setup early. Just my opinion tho. .

if you haven't already removed the muffler and the resonator can, trust me on my 2000 with muffler gone she whistles.

Im thinking of getting rid of the can on the 12V LOL...

I'm pretty sure its the H1C, I thought they only came on '94's. I'll check again... I pretty sure its a '95 too. :-laf

I think the duct is pulled loose from the fender, can it be completely removed? I was thinking the Amsoil conical filter would be the way to go, I think its waterproof and cleanable, and the bhaf is not?

I temporarily removed the exhaust on my '96 a few years back- and ran it where it exited under the passenger seat for a few months. It was pretty loud, but bearable. It sounded like a jet taking off from a stop. :-laf I'm going to cut the pipe off this weekend on the '95 and run it till I have time to get a bolt in straight pipe. No passenger in my '95, the center seat is broken so if my wife goes anywhere with me, we take my '96 so she can sit close. :D

I still don't understand why this one is so much quieter than other stock 12v's with the silencer ring still in them. Oh well, guages will be coming before too much longer, then its time to slide or grind the plate... :D Oo. Oo.

I pulled the duct from the fender to the air box and have a little bit of a whistle now. :bounce: :bounce: :D It's most noticeable when I am at mid throttle or have just let off the throttle. At WOT the engine rumbles too much to hear much whistle.

It still doesn't whistle enough, I will have some fun with the sawzall this weekend- exhaust work time... :D

I pulled mine out twice. Did not here much either.

Putting in my new intercooler boots from GENOS in the morning. Think I will pull the ring back out and clean the wax out of my ears.

I took the silencer ring out of my '96 and boy does it whistle. So at least I know its not my ears full of wax. :-laf It's so loud I'm thinking about putting it back in.

I pulled my sil ring out with the stock air box, not much diff. then I pulled the fender funnel thing, a little more whistle. so I drilled holes in the box, and a little more again.

Then I bought a Scotty II, and it was louder but not unbearable with the stock 35.

with anything larger than the 35, it is loud. the dodgezilla is actually the loudest one at cruising speed I have tried.

We put a BHAF on my bro in laws 93 with an hx35/12 and no sil ring. It whistles pretty good, especially considering that filter is mounted up front by the headlight. I think its louder than my scotty was with teh stock turbo.

when i pulled the silence ring out of mine, i didn't hear much difference, but once i added the AFE, the thing really sings.
