Now that Dodge has removed the body side moldings from the box, the ones remaining on the truck cab look out of place. AND, since I'm going to convert it to a Sport anyway (what I wanted in the first place but couldn't find any that I'd have), I want to remove them.

What's the best way? Hair dryer? Since the truck is new, I don't want to damage the paint underneath. I'd hate to have to take it to a bodyshop.

Thanks!

Rob, I wouldn't remove the door guards, you'll definitely get dents from the careless people out there. An easier way to make the truck look better is to get the side protectors for the pickup bed from the '99 model and put them on, they continue the lines of the door guards. You can remove guards but it is a hassle. If you go to an automotive paint store they will have a chemical sticker/moulding remover. Cost about $7. The easiest way to remove the guards and glued on mouldings is to get very thin fishing line and slowly saw the rubber backing until you can get the moulding off. Then you get the fun chore of removing the glue. I have a 2001 Ram Sport SB 4x4, I installed the door edge guards all the way to the rear wheel well (just like the 99's)and it looks very nice.

Rob,
With a fresh truck, the mouldings will come off very easily. I have a flathead screwdriver that is bent into an "L" shape.
Started at one end,I kinda chop throught the two-sided tape. Then useing the screwdriver like a hook, start pulling the moulding up from the body. One note of caution, don't touch the trucks' body with any tool because it will scratch the paint easily.

Will a prior years moldings fit the 2001? This would be a better way to go IMHO as is would look finished and protect some what from the door bangers!

Rob, All i did was let the truck sit in the sund for 15 minutes and pulled the molding off with my hands. Came rite off, some tape stayed on so i used some goo be gone or any citrus degreaser will work. Looks a lot better. About getting dings in door, never happen only if by other truck because the truck sits to high. My nerf bars block car doors. a hair dryer will work just heat up and peel off, paint will be fine.

Happy Camper,
The mouldings for 98-2001 trucks are all the same... Dodge just doesen't use the bed mouldings on trucks made from 2000 and newer.
Just go to the parts department and ask for bed mouldings for a 98 so 99 truck.

just use a heat gun to get it started the, get a molding eraser(body shops have them, me too) and go to it, then come back with some solvent (high voc stuff) and finish the job. While your at it pull all the stickers even the slt(stupid looking tag). Then tint the front glass and the side windows and you'll be good to go
B... ... ... ... ... .....
molding eraser does speed up the job
heat gun helps
use a plastic wedge instead of metal
or just use a maxed out credit card instead of a plastic wedge

The bodyside moldings are easily removed with a heat gun. Keep the heat gun constantly moving across the molding until it is hot to the touch. Start at one end, lifting with your fingernails and the molding will peel right off.

The bodyside molding from a SWB '98/'99 Ram can be addded behind the rear wheelwell of the LWB Ram for extra protection or to give your ride that "completed" look. I did that on my Black Sport... until I removed them (Doh!) to install my Mopar fender flares. You can get away with a lot of things like this on a Black vehicle. Most Rammers never even notice I have added the bodyside moldings to my Sport. Hidden in plain site. . Ram camo. #ad

On my 97 I have never gotten marks on the doors from door opening against it but I have multiple caveins (not dings) on both sides on the rear fender wells. So needless to say I am selective where I park.
