I have replaced ball joints on my 94 Dodge gasser with Dana 44 front axle and my 96 diesel with Dana 60. I have felt like my ball joint tool kit had the right pieces to remove the lower ball joint. I upgraded to a Super Kit from the Cornwell Tool truck and tried it on my neighbors 2001 diesel dually. The top ball joints came out without any problems, but the bottom ball joints are giving me fits. My Super Kit does not have any better pieces than what I had. I feel I need a piece that will fit the taper of the bottom C of the axle to press the ball joint into. Any better ideas to remove the lower ball joint? I tried an air hammer, but no luck. Thanks.

I did use some heat and still no luck. All I did was blow the ball joint stud out of the socket and sent it richocheting off my knee and across the shop.

I found that the ball joint press I got at AutoZone was of limited use when removing (and installing) ball joints. A rather big hammer, used with a selection of 3/4 drive sockets (as driver plugs) finally did the job.

NO FUN.

Ball Join Press

I just did my 95- ordered the press from Rock Auto ( gives TDR members 5 per cent discount - enter TURBODIESEL in space that asks how did you hear about us. ) Presses are listed year specific. Cost me 130. 00$ something. Worked very well- and was a quality product.
