My new to me '98 was ordered with the big steel frame towing mirrors. I have removed those and replaced them with the standard mirrors. Now I have 4 of these ugly white circles in each door.

Eventually I'll weld the holes up when I can paint the truck. Untill then I've got some nice flat headed plastic darts to put in each hole.

I would think I can drill them out like you would a pop rivet. Anyone know what size bit to use and am I thinking right?

Thanks,

Scott

A drill bit will usually bite and then spin the rivnut. A die grinder with a cut off wheel works very qiuckly if you are carefull not to go too far or let it slip

Or you might be able to grip the edges of the rivnut with a pair of Channellocks to keep it from spinning and use a Unibit (step-bit) to drill it out.

The holes were right at 3/8". Ended up grinding the heads off with a die grinder. Tried drilling but the inserts just spun. Put some body fastener darts I got at Lowes in the holes with a touch of black silicone. Not perfect, but it looks a lot better than 4 white rings on eac door till I can weld the holes up and paint the truck.
