I've just purchased a 1995 dodge. I've heard that it would help my throdle responce if I removed my muffler. I have added a K&N air filter. Will this help on HP<GAS Millage or any thing else untill I can purchase the 4" muffler.

Removing the muffler will help, but removing the CAT will help more. Remove them both, and see how you like the sound. If it is too loud, just get a good aftermarket muffler to throw in there.

okay, so i've always wondering... anyone had any trouble with the law over driving their straight-piped trucks around? i live in california, so i am imagining folks being even more strict about any emissions-related issues around these parts. i'd love to take it all off, but i just don't want any trouble.

I drove my truck for 3 months with nothing but the downpipe dumped right under the passenger seat. It was REALLY loud all the time, but man did that Holset sound nice!! Ever since I have straight-piped my downpipe to my tailpipe (no muffler or cat... ) the interior noise is MUCH less and there is little to no drone.

All you need is a 6' piece of 3" pipe that is expanded to 3" I. D. on either end (Meineke does it for free... or for very little $$ ($10). ), two 3" clamps, and a hanger. Total cost for the project was like $30. I used a universal muffler hanger and bolted it to the frame right where the original muffler hanger was... I even used the OEM bolts.

If Meineke is wondering what the pipe is for... tell 'em it's for a piece of farm equipment. :D Since I didn't care and knew the guy... I told him it was for my CTD.

I haven't had a single run-in with the law since... . and we have pretty strict laws around here. It's still a bit loud... but I love it.

Edit: If you want... . take the cat out... hollow it out and put it back in. That way they think you still have a cat... . you could then just put in an aftermarket muffler that flows better than the OEM.

Muffler GONE????

MMMM,,Can not figure this out,,Seems like work to me,,I went to bed one night, left my truck outside, got up the next day and it was GONE,,Both muffler and cat,not sure where they are and I do not miss them,,Seriously here,I've had all my trucks with no muffler since I've bought them and will not reinstall them,,While there is no performance advantage at all the sound rocks,,You'll also find no power in the K&N,but, making her breath easier does help with egt's,,Now for the down side of the no muffler deal,,like never listening to your stereo(what stereo),driving with the right window open all the time(even in bad weather, anyone have a raincoat??),excessive throttle burps under bridges and tunnel(lets not forget the in car washes too) and the sudden rush to show the ricer crowd your displeasure for their thump thump rollin jukeboxes with a good blast of Cummins Baritone... he he he he he he :D :D :D

My stock muffler had a rattle in it so I went to Dodge and they said it was fine. . Go figure. Then I said I wanted it replaced, they came back with "not a warranty item" They su(k... . Went to local muffler guy and he said I'll put this in. Three inch flow through(a strait pipe with a muffler around it. ) Now I can set off alarms all around town. A guy I work with said it sounds like a Big rig with a built motor. I like it.

DCook,

The cat converter is way more restrictive than the muffler, but if you want to keep a muffler on the truck then ditch the cat and muffler and get a free-flowing aftermarket diesel muffler.

You heard it right... you will get better throttle responce by the turbo spooling up faster which in turn will give better performance, but the engine will not make more horsepower. You need to add more fuel to make more horsepower.

DCook welcome. The way to get more throttle response on your 12 valve is to turn the AFC starwheel towards the engine as far as you can before getting excessive smoke on acceleration. Do a search for starwheel in the 12v forum. First things first though, get some gauges before you start modifying the engine, even the free mods. You won't gain anything by removing the muffler and cat unless it's clogged, just more noise.

Hehe. . don't for get the DECREASE in MPG... The muffler seems to fall on the right foot... . especially with the windows down. . :D :D

Bryan

The MGP will come back... ;) Once U roll the windows up... (and start driving normal again. . )

TractorNut, you forgot one thing . . . You never will drive normally again . One thing leads to another and well, you get the picture. I started with the muffler bit and look at me now :p.
