I have a 01 with rear disk brakes and need to replace the parking brake shoes. I have adjusted on them and do not seem to get any better results. I have adjusted the star wheel and not just the cable. Because it does not seem to hold very well I and other family members seem to be driving with the parking brake on for a little while before we realize it is on. I know that this has been posted before but I can not find it, but can someone please tell me how to get the rear rotor off and are there any tricks that I should know. Any information or a link to the instructions that are already posted would be greatly appreciated.

Remove rear wheel(s), remove caliper bracket (2 bolts behind rotor, 19mm? and do not allow caliper assy to hang from rubber brake line), remove 8 axle shaft bolts and slide axle shaft out of axle housing (place a small container to catch what little gear oil may run out), remove wedge lock from bearing retainer nut, remove bearing retainer nut (I use an OTC brand socket designed for that application), rotor & hub will now slide off axle housing. On the backside of rotor are 8 bolts that mount rotor to the wheel hub. I always reassemble w/ a new wheel seal, bearing retainer nut & wedge lock, and a new axle shaft gasket (metal).

This is bad, but I have never had to manually adjust my park'g brake shoes w/ wheels still mounted..... So I can't help you with that one. But I do know that there isn't much "pad" on the shoes when new. So if you did much driving w/ park'g brake set... . they just might need replacement.

On my 2002, the rotor isn't attached to the rear hub. It slips over just like the front one. Take the caliper off, & the two bolts in the caliper bracket have to removed before the rotor comes off. If the parking brakes are adjusted up tight, back them off... .
