I've ordered some Sport-type tail lights for my '02 truck - it LOOKS like the removal of the OEM assembly should be easy, but it would help if someone who has done it would describe the process.

It appears there might be 2 screws holding the light assembly in from inside the tailgate area, and then the assembly is just pulled loose from the spring retaining clips inside the rear fender area? If so, what do you "grab hold of" to safely pull it free without danger of damage, in case you need to reuse them?

It's that simple- just remove the two screws in the tailgate area (with the gate down of course) and pull out the housing. To fully remove it just undo the light sockets from the housing to completely remove it. Had to do it a couple times to put in better replacement bulbs.
