i was reading a thread and it said that removing the rubber ring through the fender would increase power. i have never heard of this and i have no idea what it even is. any help would be appreciated.

All it is, is a tube from your stock airbox to the inner fender wall. Since you have an aftermarket airfilter anyway, I think it's already gone. If you take it out, it's like drilling holes in the bottom of the stock box. Easier flow, but I doubt you'll get noticeable power gains by itself. You'll be picking up air from inside the engine compartment instead of coming in through the fender, just like with your afe. I think

Pulled mine the other day and cant say there is any more power. There is a little more turbo whine tho. :) I also have drilled my stock air box with a hole saw in about 4 places. I did this because when I installed my TST fuel plate I was making more boost (about 33lb max) that it was sucking the filter minder thingy down. After doing this I no longer suck the filter minder down everytime I romp on it. I still havent removed my turbo silencer ring It makes enough noise to enjoy it now without being obnoxious to the passengers.
