I just purchased a second vehicle, a 97 Suburban for the times we have two many guests. But the windows have very dark tinting. Does anyone have an easy method to remove the stick on tinting from the driver compartment. i am do sure if it is even legal in Washington State. But the wife said she can not see through to backup at night, so best thing is to remove it. :(

thanks to all.

The tint film should pull off fairly easily- just start at one corner and start peeling it with a fingernail or razor blade, then grab it and pull at a 90 to 180 degree angle to the glass.

The adhesive is the tough part to remove. You'll have to scrape it off. Take a sticker scraper (the kind that uses single-edge razor blades) and a spray bottle with a mixture of dishwashing soap and water.

In order to remove the adhesive without scratching the glass, wet down the glass and KEEP IT WET & use NEW blades and replace them often.

Take a blow dryer and heat the film as you pul it. Pull it very slow and don't overheat the film. A single edge razor blade will help. As for the glue, wet it with window cleaner and use the razor to scrape it off. The glue stuff really stinks.

what has worked for me

when it is really cold, below freezing, you can pull off the tint film and the glue will stay adhered to tint film and not a speck will stay on the glass. I have done this with better than expected results.

Spray the tint with a window cleaner that has ammonia in it.....

Let it sit for a little... ..... keep it wet... ... ... start peelin'... ... keep sprayin'... ..... clean any residue off with terry cloth towel and ammonia window cleaner.

if by chance you have a rear window defogger DON'T use a razor blade on it . you will remove the defogger grids, therefore removing your defogger. ken

Ether !

In High School we used to use Starter Fluid... ate the glue up really good. I've even used Finger Nail Polish Remover (acetone) - makes your finger tips nice and white afterwords... :)

I'd tell her to roll the windows down when she wants to back up!!!

I love my tint!!

BTW what's she doing driving the truck????? My wife says I don't get out of it long enough for her to drive it somewhere :D

Kinda figured it was all ready said but take your time in doing it. Most any of the above ideas will work depending on the type of tint. The most difficult film I have tried to remove is the type that has teflon in it to help last(its not as easy to peel off when the windows go up or down). With that type you'll need ALOT of fresh blades, high quality type, plenty of soapy water as warm as your hands can stand and as many calm pills you can take,LOL. It is very time consuming to remove that style of film.

Since its a 97 Suburban I'd be willing to bet the windows from the rear doors back, except the tail glass, are factory tinted and you'll not be able to remove it unless you change the glass. My adive to you is go with her at night for a while before you remove the glass and ride some daylight hours to. I'd be willing to say once she see the advantages of the front tint she'll accept the window down to back up at night. Had the same problem with Mrs Hammer when we bought the last car for her(our old LHS). It was tinted and after a few weeks of driving it she had me leave it on. Then when we bought her Durango a few yaers ago and it was not done did I catch it for being to slow in getting it done to the new truck. Hope she enjoys the large taxi... ... ... . Andy
