Time for new 5er tires?

car hauling rates

I am looking into renting a 25' TT for a trip this spring. Problem is, they are really expensive IMHO to rent and I can't buy one either. Anyone have any ideas or places I can look? Thank you for any help.

It ain't cheap. I've tryed a finding a rental place before for TT's. They were $700 a week or higher. That could pay for a lot of hotel room.

On the bright side. If you owned one you would be paying storage, insurance etc... ... ... . It adds up real fast.

Good luck

You're right. It isn't cheap. Around here it's about $1400. just to get out the door. That's almost a years worth of payments. Insurance is nothing really and I have space to store it at my house. I'm just trying to find out if anyone knows of a less expensive place.

mberry, where are you planning to vacation or travel?

Mrs J and I rented this little sweetheart for a week on the Oregon coast last spring.

Very nice people, very comfortable trlr!

Man I can almost hear the seagulls and the surf pounding now, ... nope it's a snow plowgoing by.

One idea might be to rent it close to where you are going. Might be able to save a few travel days worth of rental fees. I have seen many people do that with the RV's mainly to save on the mileage fees.

Those are great rates. We are planning on a trip to Yellowstone this year and I plan on moving every day or every other day. Those plans are tentative right now though.

BarryG,

We need to leave with it here as we have a 2 year old and need the facilities to go with us. Otherwise, that is a great idea that I never thought of. Thank you.

Yeah, unless you're full-timing, RVing is one of those hobbies that you really can't justify solely "by the numbers". Most of us moved into RV's from tent camping, so we weren't really interested in moving from a tent to motels. :( Although motels would probably be cheaper, we prefer to sleep on our own sheets in our own bed, eat our own food and generally live in our own space - not an option when one is traveling from motel to motel.

If/when you get in the market for that first RV, seriously consider a used (2-5 year old) unit for your initial purchase. That way, someone else has taken the big depreciation hit, and after a year or two in that first unit "learning the ropes" and finding out what you like and don't like, you'll want to move on to another RV anyway. ;)

Good luck on finding a rental and enjoy your trip! :D

Rusty,

I agree 100%. I slept on the ground enough in the USMC and I don't want to tent camp with my daughter anymore. I have been looking at used units. I have also been fortunate that my family always had some sort of RV while I was growing up. We started with a 16' TT when I was really young and didn't know how small that really was. Then it went to around 25' TT's and then on to Lance and Vacationeer slide in campers when my parents got into horses and they eventually wound up with a small motor home.

Not that this history lesson means anything other than making the point that I am well seasoned in the "ropes". I know what I want in an RV, it's just finding a floor plan that includes a bathroom that fits my butt with a little room to spare. I'm 6'2" and 260lbs so I'm not small, but some of those bathrooms are TINY.

That's great - I'm glad you have the experience. Maybe my comments will be of some value to others reading this thread who might not be experienced RVers, though.

Sounds like an open bath floor plan for sure! I'm 6'0" and 190 lbs, and the enclosed potty rooms are tight for me! They have their benefits, though (our 36' triple slide has one) if you have overnight guests.

I did not mean to sound like your suggestions did not have merit. I was only relating my own experiences. Thank you again for your help.
