I'm looking to get a repair manual for my 1996 Ram. Any suggestion on which manual to get?Whats best the one from Cummins or Dodge dealer? Thanks

Manuals

Depends on what you want or need. The D/C manual covers the whole truck while the Cummins manual only covers the motor.

The Chrysler service manual is the best one, covers the whole truck as well as the engine as much as anyone will need. Order it byclicking here

I use a Haynes Manual number 30041 (94-96 trucks). It's comprehensive for the basics of the entire truck and covers the basic Diesel engine. There's lots of photos for reference. Cost under $20.

It's well used and I find myself wanting more detailed specs than this offers thus perhaps the D/C Manual may give me what I'm lacking - more technical but less pictures.

I would bet that for most owners doing a fair amout of their own repair work that the Haynes manual would be more that sufficient and much less $$ than the service manuals.

Stop by your local AutoZone and ask to look through a Haynes manual and you'll get a better idea of what it covers. They are very comprehensive.

Ben,

The Dodge service manual is a far better manual than any of the others. It's saved me a LOT of money. It would be a bargain at twice the price. The wiring diagram alone is worth buying the manual for.

That is the one drawback if you will with the factory manual. There is a ton of info that does not always pertain to our applications. Once you figure out how the book is laid out and if you use it regularly, it becomes a very worthy "tool".
