Trailer light problem

I have found a small crack in the grey tank of our TT. I bought a epoxy repair "kit" from camping world containing sandpaper, epoxy and fiberglass cloth. They say it sets in 5 minutes. I got the first coat on placed the cloth on and pow that epoxy was HOT and set! This stuff was so hot you could not hold the cup! I was well within the five minutes the outside temp was in the 80's. Any suggestions woul be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

The "5 minutes" is probably rated at 70 deg. F temp. Anything higher and it will be quicker. The epoxy may not adhere to the tank, the tank is probably ABS plastic, if the epoxy don't work, call the trailer mfg. and find out what the tank is made of and they should be able to tell you what will work. bg Juba

I had a leak at the tank outlet and fixed it with a kit from Camping World like you tried. I had no problems, it's been about 4 years now and no leaks. Sounds like the kit may have had a problem. Contact them and tell them what happened, they will probably give you another kit.

Did you mix the entire kit at one time? The 5min. starts when you start mixing the 2 components together. I usually don't mix a very large batch at one time. If you put it in the refrigerator and get it cool it will take longer to cure. Like BG said, it will kick faster when warm.

There are special plastic welding kits on the market. They use what looks like a heat gun with special tips and "welding rods"- reminds me of hotmelt sticks.

The last I saw of one of them, I think the kit was around 200 bucks. Not cheap but a lot easier than removing and replacing the grey tank.

I'd be carefull of heat and open flames around the black tank... .
