I have a stock 2009 3500 4x4 6 speed manual with 6. 7 L motor. The truck has 13K miles on it. I primarily use it for hauling horses or hay. The truck almost always has a trailer behing it. About 200 miles ago I heard a chime and looked up at the console it said "Air Filter Service". So I bought a Baldwin Filter and replaced it. I found nowwhere in the book about having to perform a reset or anything. Next time I started the truck the message was gone. This weekend as I was hauling my horses The chime went again and I looked up. The same message was displayed. When I replaced the original filter the filter was very black along the bottom. Anybody have any thoughts on this. I have the dealer looking at it today however I am leaving for a 7 hour haul Thursday and I do not want to be stranded hauling horses.

Black must be all the horse dirt you got on the back roads, IMHO. The EVIC message i think you can reset by turning the key to the on position (don't start) and pressing down the accelerator slowly 3 times in 10 secs. Thats how you clear the oil change reminder also.

I did not do that because I did not want to reset the oil change reminder. How sure are you that this is the corect reset? I could find no reset instructionins int he owners manual and I did find the reset for the oil change. BTW my husband made the same horse dirt comment lol!!

As far as I know, there is no reset for the air filter. If you do as described above, you will reset the oil change monitor. I have changed my air filter after getting the message and never reset anything. Which side of the filter is black, fresh air side or turbo side? You might want to check it again. If it is the turbo side, you have a problem in the EGR system. That is one of the checks for the P2262 turbo code. Since you are in the fields allot, you might also check the fender area that the filter draws fresh air from. Could be full of grass, hay, straw, or a critter nest.

Mine goes off every time I'm hauling the 5th wheel up a steep grade and I put my foot into it. It will clkear itself after a few starts where it is not acutually plugged. My tech says its just part of the POS emiossion system. Sensor goes off undwer heavy load in air box. Mine does it with brand new cleaner.

Thanks for all of the information. My dealership is saying that this is "normal" under various driving conditions. I have been chatting with the people I go down the road to shows with and they offered the suggestion of using a K&N filter. They say the air flow is better and eliminates this alert going off all of the time however it will not void the warranty. Also they were concerned with the "soot" after 13K mile. Their concern was that the exhaust brake may be out of adjsutment. I use the exhaust brake all of the time. Anybody have any thought on either of these items. I am concidering the K&N filter and I need to know if I need to press the dealer to look at athe exhaust break.

Do NOT buy a K&N. there have been multiple threads about these filters letting too much particulate thru and screwing up yer engine. I wouldnt run one if someone gave it to me for free.

I have seen the air filter message a few times, mostly when I jam on the go pedal. I wouldnt worry about it, and change the air filter when you change the fuel filter, every 15k.

Thanks for the info. I do not want to do anything to harm my truck. I drove my '93 for 14 years and many miles. I always used Baldwin filters for everything and kept it maintained. I want to get as many years out of this truck so I am trying to do what is right. Do you have an exhaust brake on your 2010? I use mine all of the time when the truck is moving usually there is a load behind it - Horses, Hay or Equipment. When I replaced the air filtrer at 13K there was a black soot on the intake side of the filter. Have you seen this? I am being told everything from this is normal to the exhaust brake is not ajusted correctly. Any thoughts?

By OEM do your mean Other Equipment Manufacturer (like Baldwin, that is what I installed at 13K) or do yo mean Original Equipment, The filter I took out at 13K was Mopar - I know, I know I should know this but I want to be sure.
