Vacation Towing Results

OK guys. Thanks for the posts yesterday. Anyone else have an useful tips, advice, etc. for a 1st timer pulling a 27ft camper up into the hills in Arkansas. Have weight distributing hitch and have ordered Tekonsha Sentinel (all I know about brake controllers is what I've read here) - should have it installed by the weekend. I think I remember all the help up through about 4pm yesterday.

Thanks again.

Yeah, it'll be a struggle . . . to keep the hitch from ripping off that is!!! #ad

I plan on turning the PE off for this little excursion - I get better mileage w/o it anyway because of my heavy right foot.

Well, I'm from Newport and went to school at Fayetteville.

On this trip, we'll probably stop for 1 night around Texarkana just to spend the evening with one of my buddies. Then we're off to Mountain View for about 5 days - to see Blanchard Springs Caverns, canoe down the Buffalo, see the Folk Center, etc. Then we'll head back to TX.

Hi, Clint, do you have the connector that plugs into the brake controller receptacle under the dash? I'm assuming that you have the trailer tow package on your truck. If not, it is available from various RV places and eliminates the need to splice into any existing wiring.

Thanks Tom. I have the connector - came out of the glove box for the first time this past weekend. Should make for an easy 10min install.

TxRam,keep in mind that the 4 wire are the same color on the controller and the truck but DO NOT hook up that way, read your instros on the controller and match them up to the labels on the wires on the truck. Kevin

just came back from the buffalo myself last weekend. had a wonderful trip. water was little cool, but not unbearable. water level was about 4. 5 feet. great for floating. If you are going up hwy 65 watch for the crazy's out there. There are a couple of little towns to watch too. The local PD are a little on the "picky" side. Blanchard is great, and Mt. View is wonderful. Enjoy your trip!

When you set up your trailer brakes, have them engauge just before your truck brakes. It's easier on your brakes and they will last longer. Then you might consider an e-brake for those long down hill runs. I've never been to Ar-Kansas but here in Ca. we got some pretty good mountain passes and the e-brake is a life and brake saver.

Be sure to tell your truck that there is something behind it. It may run off without it. lol!!!
