This might be a repeat oil change question but here I go -

So I started my truck the other morning and was notified by my trucks EVIC display "Oil Change Due" that's fine, the "brain" of my truck is doing its job. My only concern is there was only 2,972 miles on the odometer, and the oil (factory) is only a little less then 4 months old.

My driving habits include both highway (50-70mph) and local (25-40mph) driving, and the idle time is very minimal. I don't know if my truck has regened yet because it doesn't notify me when it does. Which I find odd since my work vehicle (Fire Dept. Apparatus) notifies me when a regen is needed.

In the owners manual it shows the first oil change should occur at 7,500 miles or 6 months neither of which I have hit.

When I had my 2007 5. 9 I changed my oil at 5,000 miles religiously.

I have heard that there is a flash that can be done to stop the oil change indicator from coming on at such low miles, is that true?

Also, does 3,000 miles sound way to low to have a first oil change? Because I would rather continue to keep my personal oil change schedule of every 5,000 miles.

I am sorry if this is a repeat question but curiosity is killing me.

What have other people seen mileage wise for the first oil change?

My first change was at 4500 and only b/c it was in for a recall. I didn't get a notice to change. I'm at 9200 now and still no notice to change it. I'm going to let it go for a while and see what happens.

The EVIC oil change is based on an algorithm that estimates the fuel %age in the oil. When the %age hits a limit the oil change due is indicated. Your 2011 has accurate data, relative to older software, and I would trust it. 7500 miles is the max you can go, not the normal OCI. Driving style will dictate the OCI on a stock 6. 7. Personally I would change it, and would have changed it within 500 miles of buying it as well! The original oil is nasty and with the rings not fully broken in the contaminates go up much faster on a new motor.

My 2011 wanted (and got) its first oil change at about 2900 miles, 45 days of ownership.

The truck was ordered, so it didn't sit on the lot more than a weekend. I thought the interval was rather short, hoping the algorithm accounts for the new engine.

My 2011 first oil message came on at about 2900 miles and it just came back on at just 7000 miles. I only have 7200 miles since I bought my truck in December of 2010. I initially had a lot of Check Engine lights but after a couple of S/W updates and replacing the Oxygen sensor with a new type I have not had any issues for several months.
