I would like to replace the power/heated factory tow mirrors on my 2003

with power/heated tow mirrors from a 2010-2012 truck.

I assume the electrical plugs probably won't match and would have to be rewired. My main concern is if it would bolt up to my door. Just woundering if anyone else has tried this and what issues you had.

Thanks!

MOst importantly, the triangular shape of the bezels that sits against the the door/window frame are DIFFERENT...the 4th gen mirror bezels, unfortunately, are a little smaller then the 3rd gen base plates...you will not be able to get clean lines sealed against the door. If that is not important to you, then by all means try it out, though you WILL need to drill 2 new holes through your door frame because the 3 bolts that hold the mirror on are also in a slightly different triangular configuration. I spent quite a bit of time measuring and comparing the mirrors side by side and have realized that it cannot be done right.

All that being said, there IS a company that has started making the 4th gen mirror glass/lighting configuration in a size that will bolt right up to a 3rd gen truck..I actually saw pics of the newly manufactured tow mirrors on another forum. They are supposedly of a high quality as well. I believe that the company making them is A-1 Auto.

Are you sure you want the 4th generation mirrors? I borrowed a 4th gen truck and hated them with a passion. I'd stick with the 3rd gen mirrors.
Good luck in what ever you do and post pics.

Well I ordered a pair of the 4th gen style mirrors from 1A Auto and really like them. I like the larger convex mirror and being able to see a wider area on both sides. We went camping this weekend and it made it much easier to back in from the right side. There is hardly any vibration at 70 mph. I didn't realize how much the old mirrors did vibrate until I installed these. The main part of the mirror is all that moves from the power controls, the convex part is adjusted by hand.

I did have to return the first set I received because the passenger side would only adjust side to side and not up and down, I called 1A the next morning and had two new mirrors the next day! They emailed a UPS prepaid return label to return the first set. Very happy.

Thanks for the feedback and posting pix...I have only heard good things about the 1A Auto mirrors.

What is their written warranty??

To answer my own post regarding the warranty, just found out from their website that it is a limited lifetime warranty.

They ALSO have released power folding, heated tow mirrors with a kit to retrofit non-power folding 3rd gen trucks to the power folding ones.

and they are reasonably priced for the pair...I want some..lol.

Heres the link to the power folding in black, you can click on the warranty tab to read it--

Look at the detailed description of the mirror and be sure you are on the right page...they offer these mirrors (4th gen style to fit 3rd gen trucks) in FOUR different configurations...if you have ANY questions, give 'em a call...I have nothing to do with the biz, only WANT a pair of these with power fold and the larger, adjustable spotting mirror, don't really want the runing lights/turn signals. Anyway, I generally stay away from aftermarket mirrors after the DEALERSHIP put a pair on mine on an insurance claim and likely pocketed the differnce in cost between oem and aftermarket...you cant tell when the truck is siutting still, but the aftermakret ones they put on vibrate too much at any speed...these mirrora by 1A Auto, are getting solid reviews by guys who put them on their trucks and posted pics. AND they seem to be backed with solid customer service by the vendor who is a member of cumminsforum. I will definitely give them a try when I finish all my other more important projects on the truck.

And the reviews are towards the end of this thread--

I have both a 3gen and 4gen 3500 duallys. I like the 4gen mirrors MUCH more than my 3gens. More usable, and the blind spot works great for me.

Last night, I ordered the chrome ones with power everything. My brother in law needs towing mirrors on his '03 1500, so I figured that was a great excuse to upgrade.
