Has anyone replaced their Cat with a MBRP style muffler or resonator?

FTE is also another one that may work. Trying to keep the stock muffler sound and have no drone after removing the Cat. Be nice to have the pipe and muffler to just bolt on like the Cat delete pipe would. Any thoughts?

As I said looking to shed some heat and quicker spool up for my towing while maintaining stock sound and no drone!

Before I added the FTE the drone in the cab was totally unbearable when pulling the trailer (MBRP turbo back). Installed the muffler/resonator from FTE day before we went to Sturgis and the trip was completely enjoyable. Almost stock quiet, but at this point in life I could care less if it makes noise or not. It still has a little bit of tone to it. On the trip the wife and I could carry on a conversation in normal tone of voice even when pulling a grade where before it seemed like we would almost have to shout at each other. Personally I can't speak to the temps as the truck had straight pipe turbo back when I purchased it. Just redid my truck signature to reflect the trailer and the FTE,

I replaced the cat with a FTE resonator this past spring. I did not notice any difference in temps, noise level seems to be about the same, but the drone is 96% gone. And as an added bonus you get a nose full of the good stuff!

I run the cat only I'm my exhaust without any drone; good throaty sound on acceleration.

i tried the straight pipe from the turbo back for a few months. Got tired of yelling to my passengers.

When I bought my truck new back in late 04, I immediately pulled the cat and ran it with muffler in place like that for the first 150k miles or so. I tried the straight pipe and that sucked. Then came diesel SMOG check to Ca so I slapped the cat back into place without the muffler.

I'm picky about mileage, performance etc. I literally saw NO sign of evidence that would indicate that the cat is robbing my truck of good fuel mileage or performance.

I did the same thing but never deleted the cat. Sounds good no drone. "Smog ready"

A working cat isn't any more restrictive than a muffler.

I agree. I have seen little difference in EGT's with\without the CAT. The biggest difference is you need a GOOD muffler without the CAT or it will drone you into an asylum.

The CAT and an 18 inch Borla muffler worked great for everything. Good sound and no drone.

Without the CAT and an AT4040XL plus 18" resonator it sounds GREAT empty but it is gonna drone like crazy under a load.

One of the issues of the TDR magazine there was dyno results with and without the cat. The results was a mere 2 hp loss with the cat. I'd doubt that anyone would notice 2 hp loss. The clowns that do a DPF delete, I have no sympathy for them when they get caught and fined. My $0. 02 worth.
