Thinking about replacing my lift pump (136K) before leaving on next trip. Most info. I found on TDR search pertained to 24 valve. Seems they have a lot of trouble with theirs. Anyone have trouble with yours or information as to best place to get one , part #, etc. Probably not going to dealer, how about Napa, anyone tried theirs.

Thanks Bob

Lift Pump

Buy the pump from Cummins, alot cheaper than the stealer. I changed mine out at about 100K miles just because I wanted a new pump prior going on vacation, peace of mind. The gasket was weeping alittle also. Takes about 30 minutes if you have a long set of arms. Sorry don't remember the #.

I can't remember the # either. I bought mine from a good parts store, I think the brand was Carter or something like that. It took a few minutes to do and I had long arms:D It was an easy fix.

Hey ScottB, I put a electric pump on my 92 D350. Its been just about a year now. I was haveing to replace the factory lift pump about every year. I was buying them at our local independent parts store. I said the heck with that so I tried something defferent. I bought that crome plate those chevy hot rod people use to cap off the fuel pump hole on a chevy block. I had to cut the top part of the plate off a little because it hits the plastic noise cover on the lifter cover on our motor. Then I had to make a gasket for the cover because the one that came with it to thin and will leak if you try to use it(been there done that). Then I had to use two thick washers on the our factory fuel bolts( to keep them from bottoming out ) and I mounted the electric fuel pump right back in the same spot the factory lift pump was at. You can use the same fitting in the electric pump that was in the factory lift pump that goes to the fuel tank line, it will work fine. I had to get a fitting for the fuel filter side ( a - L- fitting) that would screw into the pump and on the other end a 5/16 hose would slide over. I had to bend the steel line that comes from the fuel filter just a little so it would meet up with the fitting. Then I use two small hose clamps and a piece of 5/16 hose (about one inch) to connect the fuel filter line to the electric pump. It looks likes it came from factory that way and it would not be hard to go back to the factory lift pump if you had to. I had to back off of my smokes screw and tight up the star wheel after I put the electric pump because it smoke to bad. The electric pump looks like the 24 vaule pump. Its just a heavy duty pump that the parts store sells. On the driver side of my 92 up by the fire wall, next to the fender well ther is a wire harness that has about six wires that are not being use, one of those wire are hot with the key switch on for the power for the pump. If I ever go back to the factory pump I will get it from Cummins!!!!!
