I have had my 96 for many years now,,and the salt has taken it's toll on the body,,,i found a complete 1500 2001 2 wheel drive gas texas rust free truck,,i want to use the complete body to fix my 96 3500 4X4,,to make things easier i was hopping to use the wirring harness from the 2001 1500,,since the 12 valve motor only requires the starter,,my fuel shut off is mechanical,,,i have a manual lock up switch,,and an piggy backed OD switch,,,so i'm thinking i should be able to do it,,,the plugs for the PCM appear the same as my 96,,,i wonder if the 96 PCM would work with the 2001 wirring harness,,,anybody have any input..it would be greatly appreciated,,i would like to have as much info before diving into this project,,,,

I really doubt it. The speedo input is different, the whole dash is different, most of the 2001 electrical components are switched ground as opposed to the switched hots of the '96. Unless you are an electrical engineer I believe the most expeditious route would be transferring the wire harnesses and the dash. Quite a few guys have done it on cumminsforum.com.

but i want to keep the 2001 interior,,i do have an electrical engineer friend that can help if i need it,,a 12 valve doesn't need much in the way of electrical...and my trans is already converted to manual overide,,,i guess i'll have to see how it goes,,
