Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Replace turbo for HY35

I ran accross this cummings turbo for sale, in near new.



Hear the numbers can some tell me if this is a HX35 that i can use to replace my HY35

I am not sure if that CUMMINGS turbo will work on a CUMMINS engine, but if it wont I might have a PDR HX 35- 12cm2 housing for sale,

Easy way to tell a HX from a HY is to look at the wastegate actuator. The HX has a rubber hose that attaches to it and the HY has a small right angle steel line.

The model H1C is the type turbo that was used on the 1st gen trucks with nonwastegated housings. Does this one even have a wastegate? I know some people have put the HX35's wastegated housing on it,so it must be very similar or the same as the later HX35,at least on the compressor side.

That type of turbo was used on the first gen trucks. I don't know anymore than that tho.

Joe,

My '94 CTD is OEM equipped with the WH1C Holset turbo and I'm told that it is functionally the same as the HX35. I recently recently purchased a new W1HC with a 14cm housing and believe that the exhaust housings will interchange with the 1rst Generation H1C turbos and all the HX35. HTH's, Larry

The first gen turbo's have a smaller air inlet and outlet on the compressor side.

FYI, unless you are looking at going past 275-300 HP, keep the HY.

"Reliable" is completely subjective... but to keep drive pressure at sane levels... . 25-30 psi of boost is the absolute max!

I was running 32 psi with the HY35 and cracked the exhaust housing.

I am running 36 psi with the mods I have and have had no problems... . Knock on Wood

DD3's and a Drag UFM... ... . dude, you need a bigger turbo!
