Who has replaced the front door speakers on the Infinity stereo system?

The 6x9's do not have much base handling ability, and frequently require turning down the base slide knob, which is intolerable above the midway point. I suspect these may have thier own amplifiers, which would steer me away from messing with the system. Any improvement in this "premium" stereo would help!

You might want to do a search. There has been some issues with the factory harness's having the speaker wires crossed up causing bad sound. I can crank mine all the way up with the bass at mid level and not distort, but it will shake the side mirrors... I would suspect some of those notes from RAP music might cause mine to distort at these levels, but from anything from Country to Heavy Metal I can crank it up to "full throttle"... Oo.

Go for it :-laf ! I visited a joint north of Sturgis a couple years ago named "Full Throttle Saloon", and more recently noticed a high-test soft drink at Dierberg's with the same name. So here's what I tried this afternoon.

I brought home some Polk 6x9's as a test run. In a nutshell, no improvement, and discovered my problem is not speaker distortion, but vibration of the door components that was irritating me. Rushed back to Circuit City to return speakers without putting the door panel back on, and noticed distotion in bass material still audible. So I will try to find source of resonance at low frequencies (I'm guessing 40-60 Htz range) that can be addressed with tape, padding, etc. , before replacing door panel.

No amplifier for front door speaker, so I did learn something!
