Hey guys,

Replaced my original Vp with a rebuild from Blue chip. It took about 10 hrs. but I was taking my time and being very cautious as I have never tried a repair this involved before. Many thanks to diesel Dan and the video he made for you tube and also thanks to Chip from blue chip who returned my call on a sunday morning to answer some questions I had. Some companies and individuals like Chip understand that good customer service is a huge deciding factor in were the membership spends its money on parts and repairs for our trucks. I hope this pump lasts as long as the original did,got 285k out of it. I am so relieved to have this done and I saved a good chunk of cash by doing myself.

Great pumps and the pride of doing it yourself, not only saves $, but you know it was done right. I tore into mine about a few weeks ago. I started on a sat morning, only spent 1 1/2 hours, got back to it after dinner for a few hours, Again Sun night for a few hours after dinner... . test dove it the next night after work. I was in no hurry either, it was fun, not work, right?

Over the past year I've dealt with the dead pedal. It would come and go. Most days the truck would run just fine. Others, it would dead-pedal about every 50 feet (slight exageration, but not much). It got to the point I was afraid to take my truck out of my driveway. Drove it around the block and into my backyard shop where it sat for a month. Lots of research here on TDR and was told about Timbo and his replacement APPS. E-mailed him and him that I didn't have any codes and he told me that I could flip a coin - either an APPS or a VP44. I chose the lesser of two evils and ordered his APPS. Wrong choice - :{ it turned out to be the VP44. So, I spent several weeks checking the various VP44 vendors :-{} and settled with the PowerShopInc. (out of Washington state) on e-bay. Good price. Good product. Fast shipping. Received the pump about a week after ordering it. Already had the old one off and put the new one on. This pump was defective. :( I called PowerShop and talked with Mike R. Told him my truck was barely running, blowing white smoke, and had the 0216code. They immediately sent a new replacement. :D Already had the first one off, put the 2nd one on in about 1 1/2 hours and the truck runs almost like new. I have only praise for PowerShopInc. and Mike R. :D:D: Upon completing the VP44 installation, I also installed Timbo's APPS. Best two replacement parts I've installed.

I did mine the 'long' way - removed the radiator, fan, crankshaft pulley, and front engine cover. Took longer, but I could see all timing marks and ensure everything was exact. The 'shorter' way (just removing the blow-by cover and then the nut does the exact same thing - I just wanted to be able to see everything. Took me about 3 hours each time. Everyone says this, but truly, if I can do it, you can too. Just take your time and if it seems a bit overwhelming, start by taking photos of everything so you can see how it all goes back together.

Now I can play with my '68 MGB and my '36 Hudson. Oo.

Ditto on Chip from Blue Chip Diesel, He does understand the value of customer service and has a great product, as I have said before here on TDR and I also had a couple of questions and he was quick to help and I have been very satisfied with his VP-44 upgrade. My 99 will soon have 190K on it and is sound, but I suspect the next item is the apps as it will occasionally throw the P121 code but it goes away and may not come back for 6 to 8 months. Thanks again Chip!!
